For me, this is a second betrayal, said Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett on Monday, announcing his withdrawal from Ohios Democratic primary for the seat of Republican incumbent Senator Mike DeWine. First, my government misused and mismanaged the military in Iraq, and now my own party is afraid to support candidates like me.
How and why this happened reveals much about the puppet masters and special interests who from behind the scenes control todays Democratic Party.

Ohh Puh-leeeeese...what a crock.
They eat their own.
This is what Rush Limbaugh called it., not Hackett.
Instead of crying in your beer how about running in a primary and seeing if you get enough support? BTW there are many veterans that don't see it the way you do.
It's the opposite in Illinois' 6th district, to replace Henry Hyde
A grass-roots Dem has spent 4 years building a campaign to defeat Hyde when no one else thought it possible. Now the national party has decided to run a female amputee ex-chopper pilot who was shot down in Iraq
The candidate was introduced on Stephanopolous' show one Sunday and, to everyone's surprise but ours she's the front runner
To hear the people of the district tell it, their concerns have been hijacked by the hate-Bush crowd (fundraising for the hate-Bush girl tripled that of the original candidate, largely due to the party's backing)
The locals will probably support whoever wins the primary, but the election isn't a sure thing, and there's alot of anger at Dean, Durbin and company
They still prop up Dean et al. I fell no remorse for Hackett. He's entitled to his opinion; I personally think he's on the wrong side.
heh heh heh.
Sounds like Hackett can't...hack it?
Hey, Paul...lie with dims, rise with flip flops. put some ice on it.
You know, now that you mention it, he does look a little bit like Mark Metcalf from "Animal House".
Yeah...I've seen some sickening signs that Democrats are courting and recruiting disenchanted Iraq war veterans, simply so they can improve their anti-military/American perceptions.
Besides being a disgustingly cynical and obvious manuever, I just don't see how running war-veterans who are still against the war is going to help Democrats.
Hackett aside, this formula didn't even work for Kerry or Clelland...and if Republicans expose this charade, it could create a worse backlash for Democrats who could be seen as exploiting the suffering for nothing more than political gain.
