US handling of UN reform angers developing nations

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.S. Ambassador John Bolton's drive to crack down on U.N. fraud and abuse is triggering a backlash from developing nations who fear Washington is trying to wrest control from U.N. members.

The simmering conflict between Washington and the developing nations that make up a majority of U.N. members boiled to the surface this week when two U.S. congressmen said nonaligned states had "worked feverishly in New York to block the efforts … to clean up the institution."

Tensions escalated after Bolton, who holds the rotating presidency of the 15-nation Security Council in February, scheduled council meetings next week on procurement fraud and sexual abuse by peacekeepers.

Developing nations protested these were General Assembly matters rather than the council's, a stand Annan supported.

Go Bolton!

The nerve of these countries, objecting to eliminating fraud and abuse!

Goes to show you how far the UN has sunk, not that it was ever much to begin with, but now it's literally a den of thieves.

Too dang bad. This is one of those times that I really wish profanity wasn't frowned upon.

No kidding. Considering that the majority of the UN is comprised of dictatorships, tyrants, and thugs that control 'developing nations', I'm sure they're upset that we want them out of power. What morons.

I'd say that this says it all...
enough so that it should be clear that the UN has no business being involved in anything, any one damn thing, that the USA does, has done, or intends to do.

Exactly and let's take our money with us.

The United States points out frequently it should have a major say in U.N. operations because it pays for about a quarter of the budget.

Give the dictators and socialists what they want and let them run the UN after we pull out--kick the thugs in $4000 suits out of NY and stop funding the cesspool called the UN.

Five or six years ago, the UN could do no wrong in most people's eyes. That has changed. Now the leftists support it, but the average person is far less admiring of the institution.

There wasn't a chance in the world that a president could pull the US out of the UN without crippling political damage. But that's changing, too.

I think we may be approaching a time when pulling out of the UN could be a realistic possibility, in spite of the way the MSM has tried to bury all the scandals.

The regretable fact is that what this article routinely calls "third world nations" are a coalition of the corrupt: dictators, Muslims, French, Belgians, and so forth. Now that the Cold War is over, exactly what does "third world" mean, anyway? Other than politically correct?

If Kofi Annan argues that the US is evil because it opposes UN trafficking in child sex abuse and massive corruption in food for oil, how will the MSM cover up for that?

Despite the breathless Reuters reporting, (we have "simmering conflict" that's "boiling to the surface"...sheesh a 7th grader could write better)...I'd imagine the UN creeps WERE pretty "tense" about this:

Tensions escalated after Bolton, who holds the rotating presidency of the 15-nation Security Council in February, scheduled council meetings next week on procurement fraud and sexual abuse by peacekeepers.

The same "developing nations" that have been "developing" for the past 50 years.

The UN is excellent at maintaining the status quo.

Are developing nations objecting, or their thieving governments?

"US handling of UN reform angers developing nations".

And how long have these "developing nations" been on the face of the earth? Long enough to "develope"?

Here's a better title.

"US handling of UN reform angers parasitic nations that cannot fend for themselves without a large amount of foreign aid being sent their way".

And even then they have a difficult time.
