Except that they did; the local press was called first thing in the morning. So all of their girlish hysteria is about the fact that some local guy got the scoop, instead of them.
This is an interesting story up to a point, its the vice president after all. If your VP shoots someone, or vomits on some foreign prime minister, I'm sorry, its interesting for about 5 minutes. Its worth a couple of jokes, and its worth a moment to pray for the guy who got a face full of buckshot.
But then thats it. Beyond that, I'm not interested. If you're going to waste a lot of ink and paper on this story, you've lost me. I'm much more interested in finding out when our guys will be crossing the Iranian border. And if Cheney will be taking personal charge of that mission.
Guess they don't teach that part in journalism school anymore.
What a great editorial.
Pity no one will ever read it.
I love this.
Yes. (Great sentence!)
I do love your posts!
Thank you. ;o)
That's what really matters.
Mrs.Armstrong called the local paper the next morning.
The priorities were: provide medical help, inform LE, notify the media. All done in order of importance.
I went to journalism school, actually it was broadcasting school 'cause I am a techie and just wanted to 'play with the toys' as it were, but was forced to take journalism courses as a requirement for my BA degree. This was in the late 70's
The "Woodward/Bernstein" drone couldn't have been more clear ... they said "You have more power with that video camera in your hands than the president of the United States" ... or some such pap. I didn't like that at all, thought it was all a bunch of self-grandizing nonesense. But then it happened in the 1980's ... "60 Minutes" and "2020" become the most watched and influential 'news magazine' programs ... local stations stage similar 'GOTCHA!' pieces, and an entire cottage industry sprug up with "Shame On You" expose's .....
What a mess ... so glad I never went into that morass of maroons :)
FRegards Old Sarge! Stay safe my FRiend! :)
This one is fun! ;)
I read it.
The "Gotcha!" journalism is particularly disturbing, since the media folks who are constantly tut-tutting American culture for its crassness are the same folks who thrive on that. Every week you'd think the world was ending according to 60 Minutes. And yet these problems they get everyone worked up about are rarely mentioned again after the "hard-hitting" expose is broadcast...so how important could each of them be?
bttt
YOU read it Sarge, and so did I. We are DEFINITELY somebodies!
I'll go even one further .. the media folk who are constantly tut-tutting American culture ought to turn the camera around on themselves to see the folly within their own lives and culture, and then realize that they are no better or worse than any other American. We all have our own little follies and shortcomings, everyone does, but we don't all go around exploiting it on television like these self-important narcassists do ... nuff said :)
Here in Germany I am unable to get CNN (which is not really a problem), but have you people seen CNNI?
There ratings are so bad that they got people moved over from BBC and are using old style BBC graphics on their screen. It's pathetic.
Two weeks ago I heard a CNNI reporter admit that their average viewer watches CNN for 21 minutes a week. That's only three minutes a day!! And that is the average, which means there are many people watching for much less than 3 minutes a day and CNNI is still counting them as "viewers".
LOL!
