The Miami subsidiary, Continental Stevedoring & Terminals Inc., said the sale to Dubai was prohibited under its partnership agreement with the British firm and "may endanger the national security of the United States." It asked a judge to block the takeover and said it does not believe the company, Florida or the U.S. government can ensure Dubai Ports World's compliance with American security rules."
It appears there is some bad blood between Continental Stevedoring & Terminals, and P&O, going back to a 7.2 million dollar case that Continental won, then lost on appeal in May, 2005. Dollars to donuts, the recently filed case for 10 million bucks is designed to vindicate the loss in May, 2005. The "security" angle is meant to sow FUD.

P & O PORTS FLORIDA, INC.,
Appellant,

vs.

CONTINENTAL STEVEDORING & TERMINALS, INC.,
Appellee.

** CASE NO. 3D03-2878
** LOWER TRIBUNAL NO. 03-10287
Opinion filed May 25, 2005.

On April 9, 2003, P&O made an offer to buy Continental's interest in Eller-I.T.O for 7.2 million dollars. The offer included the condition that the parties would waive the non- compete provision of the agreement. Continental did not want to sell its share for only 7.2 million dollars, and it did not want to buy P&O's share without the protection of the non-compete provision.

Continental sought a judicial determination that P&O's offer was invalid by filing a complaint seeking declaratory and injunctive relief. ...

After the hearing, but before the Special Master issued his report, P&O attempted to revoke its offer by writing to Continental that its buy-sell offer was "hereby rescinded and withdrawn." Continental filed a motion to deem the revocation invalid, but the motion was never ruled upon. ...

The Special Master recommended that the trial court declare the offer to be valid; find that the non- compete agreement survives the sale; and that it enter an injunction against the parties prohibiting them from competing with each other at the Port of Miami for three years. The trial court entered a Final Judgment adopting the Special Master's recommendations over P&O's objections. P&O appealed.

Sorry to say, but it looks like a lot of closet racism is leaking on through some of the right-wing response to this story. People are going of in classic knee-jerk fashion, rather than educate themselves about the facts of this deal. I only hope that we can rely on the Dems to overreach again, and save the Republican party from stepping in it.

The only girl on FoxNews who receives adoration from here is Meagan Kendall. --- extremely beautiful, speaks very well and concisely, very smart and thorough!

I agree, her only flaw is that she didn't wait for me.

No problem. Just read up on this, because the facts are clear for those who want to know them.

FYI - FTN - Schieffer and Frist on Cheney

Bill Frist's Cheney Defense Leaves Bob Schieffer Fuming
NewsMax ^ | 2/19/06 | NewsMax

Posted on 02/19/2006 10:53:39 AM PST by wagglebee

Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist told CBS "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer on Sunday that Democrats were playing "partisan politics" with Dick Cheney's hunting accident last weekend - a charge that left Mr. Schieffer fuming.

"What America does not want to see is what happened right afterwards, and that is that the Democratic leadership tried to inject partisan politics into what is a very, very tragic accident," First told Schieffer, who bristled at the remarks.

"But Senator," the veteran newsman protested, "ah - I mean - didn't - didn't - shouldn't [the hunting accident] have been made public but for no other reason than the administration and the vice president's own good? I mean, one can understand that he clearly was not thinking straight. Who would, after thinking they'd killed their best friend?"

Schieffer continued to insist that Democrat attacks on Cheney were legitimate, then asked: "Has the vice president become of liability to the White House? Has he become a liability to your party?"

Frist countered: "Absolutely not. Absolutely not. He is a bold leader. He understands and works very closely with the vision of the President of the United States in securing America's future for a safer, stronger country. That means he has to be both a leader as well as a participant and I think he does it very, very well."

Moments later, the Tennessee Republican reiterated: "I don't think it is appropriate to inject partisan politics into this particular incident."

"There are too many other important issues for the press to cover than this non issue. It was non-issue after the 1st day, and even more so now. True words of wisdom here SC. IMHO after Britt Hume interviewed Cheney and Cheney told him basically, I shot the man and take full responsibility for doing so the story ended. The rest is just the msm continuing to set their agenda which is all left wing all the time. The big question becomes will we blindly follow like little sheeple or will we go our own way and cover the topics that can shape peoples lives like Able Danger,WMD's, the Barret Report and dozens of other ignored stories that really do effect the lives of Americans.

What I found interesting today..on all of th shows...was when Sec. Chertoff was asked about the Dubai deal, he was VERY closed mouthed and reinterated over and over how it was classified..and he couldn't talk about it...

um..... could this be a "loose lips" kind of situation?  Did we "get something" in return for letting this deal go through?  If so, it is probably already too late.  The alarm bells must already be going off in the heads of any truly professional spooks out there on the other side.  And we must never make the mistake that the enemy does not include at least some competent minds.

Given the recent history of the dem party, I think we have reason to be optimistic.

If the Orca wants her heiney to lose the Iowa primary, she will lose the Iowa primary.

#####

It will be fabulous theater, no matter who comes out on top. I think the Orca only has a few fights left in him. He did not seem to be served well by his staff in the hearings for Alito. I am speculating that competent staff are moving on to better positions in dem offices, and he will become progressively less powerful.

For what it's worth I email some of the radio hosts and do get them to address the subject occasionally.

I keep the e-mail to one issue or point. I am not inflammatory in my comments. I ask a question in the e-mail. And, I always put full contact information at the end so there is no question as to who's sending it.

The only one I have had zero success with is Rush. LOL Don't know why I've not been successful with him.

On one level it is good news but on a personal level for the Cheney and Whittington family it is not.

Especially the Whittington family, the Cheney's know the score of how the media behave whereas although Whittington is a prominent lawyer and loyal supporter of the Republican Party in Texas I doubt if he or his family have ever seen such a barrage of media attention before.

Probably because of the volume of mail he gets? I every once in a while will hear him pick up on something I sent him. Don't know if it is because he say my email or just enough people sent him the same thing
