"It is extremely important to point out that the aim behind these cartoons was not to attack the Prophet at all or devalue him, but as an opening to dialogue on freedom of expression," Sunday's apology said.
"We did not realize at the time how sensitive this issue was for Muslims in Denmark or millions of Muslims around the world."
The adverts included a previously published statement from the Danish embassy in Riyadh declaring respect for Islam.
The apology was dated February 5, but an advertising spokesman at al-Riyadh said it might have taken time for the papers, which are close to the government, to approve the announcement. RIYADH - Saudi Arabian newspapers on Sunday printed an apology by the Danish paper whose cartoons lampooning the Prophet Mohammad have sparked violent protests around the world.
The full-page advertisements appeared in Asharq al-Awsat, which is printed around the Arab world, as well as the local al-Riyadh and al-Jazira.
"Allow me in the name of Jyllands-Posten to apologize for what happened and declare my strong condemnation of any step that attacks specific religions, ethnic groups and peoples. I hope that with this I have removed the misunderstanding," wrote Carsten Juste, the editor of Jyllands-Posten. In recent days, 16 people have died in Nigeria and 11 in Libya during violent protests against cartoons published by the Danish paper last September and since republished in several, mainly European papers.
The global uproar over the cartoons came after Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador from Denmark last month in response to pressure from clerics and a popular campaign against Danish products in the kingdom, the site of Islam's holiest shrines.
....and the toddlers win!!!
Missing from the beginning of the above article:

Hey, Jack! Which way's Mecca?
Terrorism works.
Ha ha! I just love that cartoon!
Dhimmitude.
Imbeciles only make it worse by caving BUMP!
They only have power when we give them power. The world should never back down from an arab, it makes them even more bolder in their quest to rule the world.
Now that they've apologized, the Muslims will not come up with a fresh set of demands!

Is it just me - or is anyone else really depressed today?
The Danes are cowing down, like everyone else.
Bush & Rice are pushing the deal where a middle eastern company gets to run our most important ports & I'm actually agreeing with Schmucky Schumer for once.
In my neck of the woods, coal mine owners are wanting to hire Mexicans instead of Americans to work the mines.
The mayor where my business is located is wanting to almost double city fees & taxes.
AND to add injury to insult - I'm on a diet & I GAINED weight this morning!
This sucks.
Please don't hurt us, we are scared of you.
Thanks for giving the lunatic fringe a precedent to resolving their problems.
I am not surprised. These people received almost no support from other "news" organizations and mostly condemnation and criticism from those entrusted with the defense of liberty and security (political "leaders").
I can hardly wait for the next incident that will trigger moslem violence and western surrender. The west (with few exceptions) has made it clear that the only time it will take any action to defend itself is in response to direct attacks - and then only if they are major (9/11 size) and then action will be undertaken only by a few (the others are too busy formulating statements of regret and condemnation while busily paring down their military to allow for more useful use of the funds saved on important matters like subsidies for face lifts and sex-change operations).
We are witnessing momentous events here. Europe as a whole is surrendering itself piece by piece to people that care only for its comforts and conveniences and who despise its culture and belief systems.
The fact is that riots work
We found that out after 1968.
Every city now has a Martin Luther King street, politicians were falling over themselves handing out affirmative action jobs, entitlements.
Now the Islamics are onto it.
Newspapers and countries lining up to kiss their arses, and apologising for offenses real and imagined.
Riots work.
Very bad news. You cannot reward this kind of outrageous behavior. If you do then the Jihadists win and the West takes a step back torwards the 12th century.
Oh yea, and it is NOT "Breaking News" either.
I am oh so sorry about those cartoons. I never meant to offend you in such ways. The fact is, I am sorry that the cartoons were not MORE offensive. You deserve far more offensive cartoons: your false prophet raping small furry animals, your false prophet being raped by large furry animals, etc. Make no mistake - free peoples will continue to mock everything you hold dear. And if you dare to threaten a free person with direct physical harm, we will not hesitate to send you directly to hell, do not pass go, do not collect 72 virgins. Sincerely,
A non-capitulator.
"Oh yea, and it is NOT "Breaking News" either."
In terms of the Saudi newspapers printing the apology, why isn't it "breaking news"?
