Blast at presidential palace
From correspondents in Manila
February 20, 2006
A LOUD explosion was heard on the grounds of the Philippine presidential palace today, television station ANC said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Witnesses said a green garbage can was shredded by the blast, which brought government workers from their offices.
The army tightened security yesterday after finding a bomb in its top military academy, one of the alleged targets of a plot to overthrow and possibly kill President Gloria Arroyo.

From the China Post: "It occurred amid tight security with widespread coup rumors swirling ahead of the 20th anniversary this week of the "people power" revolt that ousted dictator Ferdinand Marco"

So they killed a trash can?
Pretty poor terrorism, if I do say so myself. Sorry, I'm just not impressed.

The Philippines: an explosion shakes the presidential palate
MANILA - a strong explosion of unspecified origin shook Monday the palate of the presidency from the Philippines in Manila, indicated witnesses.
"the authorities are inquiring into the origin of the explosion", indicated by telephone to AFP Isabel de Leon, under-secretary charged with the press.
The explosion was heard around the presidential palate Malacanang, in the center of the capital, according to witnesses.
On its side, the chain of television ABS-CBN, present on the spot, indicated that a machine seems to have exploded in a dustbin outside one of the buildings of the presidential complex.
