The worst automobile driversall retire to Florida, just as age takes away their vision and reflexes.

Interesting how TX with lower taxes has better roads. How TX with lower taxes has an improving school system and is making big improvements.
Geeee, here I thought that more money, more taxes, equals better government and services!

Don't forget New Jersey drivers - they are the worst of the bunch! Northeast NJ gets included in my Metro NYC area.
Drivers in East Central NJ are among the best in the nation, or so I've heard.

Ditto. PA is the worst. And the turnpike is awful, yet they collect money.

Virginia raised taxes $1.5B and is now running a $1.5B surplus. The General Assembly is in session now and is talking about raising the gas tax, tax on car insurance, increase or add tolls on the interstates, increase fines for repeat traffic offenders to pay for roads. They're voting on these measures in the very near future.
And yet, we have some of best roads in the country. Why my taxes have to go up to fix a problem that isn't just frosts me.

How bad are PA roads? If you were blindfolded going down I83 south from PA to Baltimore MD, you would know the instant you crossed the state line.
My car is always missing at least one hubcap. Right now it's missing 2.
We do not decorate our yards with hubcaps because we like the look - they're waiting for the owners to reclaim them.

When I was in grad school at Virginia Tech, 15 or so years ago, Mrs. P. and I would occasionally drive up home to Pennsylvania. We'd always know when I-81 crossed the state line into PA, because the road would suddenly become a moonscape, and you'd have to turn up the music to hear it above the rumble.
During campaign season you'd see billboards along U.S. Rt. 22 in the Lehigh Valley saying "Vote for me...AND I'LL FIX THIS DAMN ROAD!"

I-10 is the third-best highway in the nation.
Who rated these?

Texans don't know how to merge entering onto a freeway. This has been a complaint of everyone I know who has ever driven in Texas.

Whomever allowed the PA Dept of Transportation (PENNDOT) to fix potholes in concrete highways with "mounds" of macadem should be strung up by their nose hairs.

South Carolina drivers are bad (sorry Palmetto Staters, I love SC, but you know it's the truth). They aren't homicidally aggressive like, say, Atlanta drivers on the 285 Speedway. They're just *bad*. They merge without looking, change lanes without signaling or looking, paint their nails while driving, have car DVD players on while they're driving, go from 50 to 80 to 50 to dart through traffic, clog the left lane...just clueless stuff. (And yes, I saw all of that in seven years of commuting I-126 and SC 277 into downtown Columbia every day.)
When I moved back up here to Virginia, the biggest thing I had to re-educate myself about is that people actually take the speed limit fairly seriously here. Virginia drivers are generally pretty good, as long as you're not out in the country stuck behind the stereotypical old-man-with-a-hat doing 25 mph in a 55 zone on a two lane with "NO PASSING NEXT 21 MILES" signs. They do exist.

The best highway is not I-75 - especially on UF game day.
There is always an accident or two at the I-75 + turnpike ramp. Also, Florida roads have some of the highest fatality rates.

I95 in Virginia from DC to past Fredericksberg is a joke
I64 near the beach is bad news
Route 7 West needs more lanes from Loudon County to Tysons
Route 29 is nothing but a revenue generator for redneck sheriff's departments. Increase to 65 MPH

The toll for my regular turnpike trip jumped from less than $7 to $10. Yet there are some sections that have had the same construction barriers for 10 years and more, and that is no exaggeration.

The states with the worst roads . . . 2. Missouri The worst highway in the United States . . . 2. I-44 in Missouri
Does not surprise me.

Don't even talk to me about Atlanta drivers and how the lanes keep disappearing out from under you going through the city on U.S. 75......and how the signage gets you in the wrong lane......and how everyone speeds like maniacs......and how you can't get over to the correct lane in the traffic because the drivers in the correct lane won't let you in....and how you're headed for Chicago and suddenly find yourself headed for Winston-Salem....and how it takes an hour to get back on 75.....and.......
