Provide helicopters for a few days? Yes. Provide Marines to do the digging? Why? Is there a shortage of strong men to do labor in the PI? Or will they only do it if they are well paid?

I don't know what it will take to convince folks - that the strength and endurance of America is LIMITED....

Our friends are few - our enemy plentiful.
To tilt at every windmill in the world because we CAN, will diminish our strength and leave unchanged our enemies inbred hate for us.

In the world of reality --- we have seen how our history of charity and generosity has done little or nothing to shelter us from the animosity of our enemies....

To put all one's faith in God rewarding the "Good", is a fool's escape from reality.. I've seen too many GOOD MEN, attempting to do good, killed by evil men with evil intent for me to buy into the "rewards for doing good" banter.

US troops already there, digging out the school. Fox had pictures....said they could hear rhythmic tapping and scratching coming from beneath the mountain of mud. 100 acres of mud from that slide.

I am reading" Imperial Grunts" which tells of our ongoing presence there. What we do is very low key but important. It is called "winning hearts and minds" and may be of great use in the future against the terrorists. They cannot win without the support of the "locals".
I highly recommend the book. Also explains Bush's visit to Mongolia.Good stuff.

Public relations.

If you disagreed with it, you'd call it a stunt.
If you agreed with it, you'd call it anti-terrorism.

Because we are Americans. We rescue the innocent people caught in natural disasters. Feel free to disagree or to turn your back on people in need.

Didn't do us much good when we rushed to help after the sunami. Those "feel good" sentiments might be better suited if we didn't have our OWN PEOPLE living in tents down on the Gulf Coast.

It's not like we don't have our own folks in similar need along our Gulf Coast - or in need of FORCE along our borders.....

Fire for Effect. Salvos of Truth do lots of damage, don't worry, just keep firing.

You so right. What kind of precedence does our "War", have when we send Marines to a mudslide. Oh I'm sure its supposed to be a Public Affairs exploitation, but I doubt Filipinos, who clamored for us to leave PI, are going to change their opinion of US because of some photos of Americans digging in the mud.
OTOH, if they saw pictures of American Marines digging Osama's broken corpse out of a his blown-to-hell hideaway in Pakistan, THAT would be very PUBLIC AFFAIRS POSITIVE.

With the greatest of respect I have to demur. FWIW I was in the area just before the eviction. These people are our friends. The rat-bastard intellectuals in Manila - Raul Manglapus, to name one - were the ones who threw us out, a classic example of an arrogant, monied elite who run things in the big town - the newspapers, the TV stations, the universities, and in the end, the government.

I've broken bread and drunk beer with these folks and I'd dig them out any time because I know they'd do it for me. This isn't Manila.

Please understand..... I don't for a moment dispute a word of your post.... I too developed some long term business friendships there.

My problem is with it ALWAYS being us.....bailing out some Turd World "nation" in trouble.... when there are dozens of nations capable of providing the grunt work of digging out folks or their corpses.

Speaking of digging out friends, in a time of need...
Did any nation provide any assistance of significance to help "dig out" New York after 9/11?, or after our Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Floods, Earthquakes, etc,.?

Even if we didn't need it -- common courtesy dictates you aid a friend in need... I'm not aware that any nation sent even a small contingent as a symbolic hand of help - simply as a show of apprecation for our past help to them.

The freaking Saudis sent a Prince with a check, with an ugly speech string attached -- forcing the Mayor to return the check...

Perhaps if we stopped playing 9/11 to the world, the citizens of the Turd World would take action to repair their own politics, infrastructure and society..

It drives me to distraction, seeing our debt driven resources and heavily deployed and exhausted military serving as diggers in a nation full of that menial resource..

End of rant..

Agree with ya 100%........polidiots, sheeple and their handlers continue to lose the CONUS as they try and appear to save the world.
