Well, Patsy gets it right this time...but I'm a bit confused: I always thought he was FOR the Inquisition, but he seems ambiguous about it here.

The President is playing this perfectly. By ignoring the press, he has caused a 14 day meltdown, gregory falling apart and forced to apologize, and all the talking heads stating that the press jumped the shark.

Yep, poor old Bush, no one told HIM he was a lame duck! Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!

Right-wing talk radio

I'd prefer to call it "conservative" radio. Although this nut pretty much got it right this time, he is still a loose cannon with very little credibility.

Diagree. This press core stumping Plame, SCOTUS nominees, NASA, Iraq, and an accidental shooting is not playing with the public.
Everything Bill Plante and Dave Gregory says is now suspect.
When your credibility is diminished, so is your power.

"The lesson of last week is that the Bush White House had better get its act together, because the adversary press has its act together."

This is true.

The old established/liberal/socialist media is America's most ruthless, relentless, and destructive enemy.

He makes a good point here, but I think that more and more people every year see the white house press corp for what they are and pay them no mind, which necessarily limits their influence more and more year by year. I thing pretty soon the white house will be able to deny half of the old guard access and instead invite in that many more reporters with brains.

Though it flies a neutral flag, there is nothing neutral about it. The D.C. press corps is to liberalism what the Inquisition was to Catholicism: the defender of orthodoxy and scourge of heretics. -Pat Buchanan

The adversarial press is light years more adversarial to GOP Presidents than to any Dem. It's mildly interesting watching lions of the press corp claim neutrality and point to instances where they gave pinprick heck to Dems. They actually believe it. When a similar circumstance comes up in future, I expect these individuals will think hard (for a microsecond) but then go with their instincts. That's the thing: they are emotionally driven. They will suddenly rediscover the need for the press to express national sympathy, not wage bloodsport.

The reason this titanic hypocrisy can exist in folks who understand intellectual honesty is simply the incredible elasticity built into the enterprise of discursive logic.

The NY media has run this country for 40 years, our culture and our politics.

They win because they run a 24/7 campaign. They are political orgs, with political operatives posing as journalists.

WHO is willing to run a 24/7 campaign against them?

Freerepublic?

"But Monday, it had become something else altogether, as the White House press corps took on the aspect of that Muslim mob outside the Danish consulate in Beirut. Press secretary Scott McClellan, mild-mannered presenter of the daily press line, got the full Abu Ghraib treatment"

This type of prose is what makes Pat a great writer.

If it sides with a GOP president, as the press corps did from 9-11 to March 2003, the president is almost invincible.

It wasn't so much that the press corps sided with Bush after 9-11, as they decided it was a good time to lie low. Nonetheless, the refusal of some to wear flag pins or assign right and wrong (to this day, many MSM stalwarts insist in calling terrorists "freedom fighters" or "insurgents") shows where they stand.

Is my thinking a little "foggy" here or didn't a presidential candidate shoot a child in the back during Vietnam? What the heck was his name?

Pat got it right... right up til the end where he fell flat on his face.

Fu_k the White House Press Corps... fu_k the MSM... they will ALWAYS work to destroy a Republican administration.

Cheney made them play HIS game... and they came off as the DNC-compromized, nanny-state socialists they really are. Give'm it to'em again and again til their 'friggin heads spin off!

In the endless war in Washington, the national press corps is the most formidable ally of the Democratic Party.

Why does Pat think that the MSM, with its failing readership and falling stock prices, is still the nation's gatekeeper for all the nation's news?

And why does he think that the MSM is "the most formidable ally" of a political party that has resigned itself to minority status?

Pat is still thinking of the glory days when newsprint was bought by the mega-barrel and computers didn't exist.

The MSM, as epidomized by The New York Times, has been in bed with Marxism since the early part of the 20th Century.

They are the antipathy of anything or anyone advocating free expression or freedom of thought.

Any Republican or traditional Southern Democrat that attempts to curry their favor will be utterly doomed to failure.

Why conservative politicians continually persist in their fruitless endeavors to gain "favorable press" in the National Media breaches all rational capacity of comprehension.

So, I suppose when the press made up a fake document to nail the Prez with before his election they weren't in rabid Nixonian mode? How about Abu Grabib? Katrina? Numerous other examples?

I'd love to know how the press damaged the admin. It's conventional beltway wisdom, which means it's wrong. The only possible way what the pressers could be said to hurt the admin even short term, was if you call not having his health care accounts on front page last week. Okay, I'll give that, but in return we didn't have more national secrets leaked. I'll take that return.

The man that wants Bush impeached warning the admin to watch it's back because the press wants him impeached. How hilarious. The ONLY reason Pat is come out somewhat in favor of the admin, is because Nixon's name was invoked and Pat reflexively remembers the old days when he actually targeted the real enemies. he will always defend Nixon, to which is a credit most of the time since most of the time the slaps at Nixon aren't entirely deserved, but this piece is a result of his sensibilities being offended that the pressers went after his Prez (Nixon) again.
