McCain Stands with the President
Corner ^ | 2/21/06

Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administration’s decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.

“We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The President’s leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, let’s do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, let’s make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.”

That is because it is about ratings in Talk Radio. The only person not concerned about ratings is Rush

The Bloviator just piled on (TV) and he probably isn't worried about ratings either.

Did we ask Hamas if THEY wanted to bid on the job?/sarcasism off.

We should insist on managing the production of the oil field in the United Arab Emirates, if they get to manage our sea ports.

That is exactly what he has done.

I would like the United Arab Emirates to engage the United States economically. I'd like our government to manage the production of their oil fields. Then, they could manage our sea ports.

did you hear that McCain is using W's direct mailing lists for his own Straight Talk fundraising campaign?

I am on the direct mailing list and I haven't heard one word from McCain.

People have been stampeded into this story - even though it's four months old.

This whole situation is surreal.

LOL!
How did I get on to the cartoon thread?

once the republican congress sees some polls, and sees that they are effectively "on their own" for the upcoming 2006 election - they will do whatever it takes to survive, and they should. Bush doesn't have to stand for election again, the republican congress does.

Haven't followed a lot of elections, huh?

Look, who do you think is going to provide the bulk of the funding for Republican Congressional campaigns? Do you think any Republican is going to do BETTER without Bush on their side? Who do you think the RNC is going to side with? Some loudmouth Congressman, or the President of the United States?

Come October, you will find those whores in Congress screaming at the top of their lungs for an appearance with Bush. They will NOT cross him. They will not vote against this deal, and they will not position themselves against him if they expect to win their next election.

"Well, I'll take that as an admission that you're just not too bright and don't understand how politics works."

wow, talk about not too bright. that comment "why would i include your lame rationalization you need so desperately to support your utter hypocrisy???" was in reference to our discussion about your double standard in this thread:

From my vantage point, O'Reilly is in favor of this deal.

its not just "some loudmouth congressman" - its a strong consensus of republican congress persons who can not honestly be described as RINOs.

I can speak for my congressman - Peter King - if he flips on this issue, I will not vote for him. period. I am sick of this crap.

"There are Arabs and Muslims working in sensitive positions in this country by the thousands. If you are going to allow the one, I see no reason not to allow the other."

If there are Arab muslims in sensitive positions in the U.S. you can bet the farm they've been totally checked out by the FBI, and perhaps even being watched now. But it's impossible to check out all the employees, managers and company security people that will be generated through this Dubai takeover of our ports.

I can well imagine that al Queada is salivating at this turn of events. If they can place just one spy/terrorist at work in each port they will gain an important advantage, because the new Maritime company will be working closely with U.S. Coast Guard and Customs security people, and they'll get to know our security procedures and safeguards.

Even the very liberal President Roosevelt decided on the internment camps for Japanese citizens, to prevent potential infiltrators from passing sensitive information back to Hirohito's empire. We'll never have such camps in these suicidally 'tolerant' times we live in, nor will we have a leader with that kind of testosterone; but that doesn't mean we have to sell part of the security of our seaports to potential enemies. Or does it?

Yes, Uncle Bill continued to get more talking points in even after I made the comment.

All these eddies are giving me a headache.

The two party system has officially jumped the shark
