BTW, the Andromeda Nebula is very large in the sky. In the cited picture, the moon barely covers the central bright spot.

Always liked this one better.

Cf. illustration in post 27. The sun is of course within the galaxy, but is in the suburbs, as it were. The view I posted is looking inward. The dark stripe across the center of the picture is due to dust in the "Sagittarius arm" interposed between the sun and the galactic center.
