What does the enlightened, freedom-loving, tolerant and inclusive West have in common with fundamental Islam? Both are overwhelmingly repressive in what they consider to be "acceptable" speech. The latest evidence of this is the conviction and sentencing of Clifford Irving, whose denial of the Holocaust earned him three years in an Austrian jail

Free speech isn't for saying "Everything's nice!" It's for being able to say things no one likes hearing.

I can't say I've ever considered Austria to be "west".

Accuracy Alert: David Irving is the British author going to prison. Clifford Irving made up the biography of Howard Hughes.

Posted on both threads.

The author is a moron. David Irving is going to jail in Austria.

I'm sure Clifford Irving is doing just fine.

Austria and Germany don't constitute the "West", no matter what Klaus the Canadian thinks.

David Irving has been doing just fine splitting his time living or promoting his works in London and Miami. The last time I looked those were Western countries, frankly more important than Austria.

Or Canada, which ironically is not only the whining authors apparent home, but which is, Israel aside, is the only country I can think of outside Nazi dominated Europe where Irving might have a problem with his speaking.

The author and the Canada Free Press will no doubt be hearing from Clifford Irving's attorney's shortly :-)

Clifford got OUT of prison some time ago (where he went for lying about Howard Hughes, not the Holocaust) and has been trying to keep a clean image since then.

In his generalizations about "the West", the author is making a rather huge omission.
