Yes, the Miers business was very depressing here in the forum. So many people backing Bush, no matter what, and making all sorts of personal attacks on anyone who disagreed.

But it's not doing Bush any favors to stand by and watch him make a big mistake. Even the best of us make mistakes. Real friends owe it to a friend to speak up and tell him the truth, if possible. You're not doing the President any favors if you stand by and let him destroy himself and the party and weaken the country in the process.

I agree, again. First, I am a conservative and believer in a free republic and free enterprise. Second, I am a Republican because they (often) support these beliefs. Then third, I am a Bush supporter.

#1 always trumps #3 and hopefully it won't trump # 2 on election day.

Look, what if it was a substantively okay decision but has a political odor that is easy to attack? That's how I feel about this situation. ...

"Real friends owe it to a friend to speak up and tell him the truth, if possible."

ho ... Okay... here is the truth and nothing but the truth.

Mr President: While the decision made to allow the deal go through for a UAE company to buy a london company that is operating some ports, it has raised many questions. It's one thing to have a secret process to determine that there are no national security or homseland security risks in this change of management, but its another to convince American people of the same. Mr President, you need to restore confidence in your base and in the wider public by answering those questions and giving Congress time to look closer.
Once the full set of facts are out, your original decision will be vindicated. Do not be hasty in casting aspersions on those critiquing the deal; some folks are just slower to catch on and are 'from Missouri' - you know "the show me State". A little patience and a lot more facts, and the hyperbolic venting over this deal will calm down.
Best Wishes, A Bushie
