For personal home defence, my Sig P226 9mm works just fine. The Ruger Bisley Vaquero .357 is for target practice and SASS with .38 ammo.

Well, apparently there are two schools of thought here. I've been challenged by "little men" all my life. It's that whole Napoleonic complex thing. They just can't help it, but maybe I should be grateful, because it made me much tougher in life.

In my experience as a "big guy", every little banty rooster in town always felt like they had something to prove by taking on the big "Gringo".

For some reason, they always thought 6'3, 220lbs meant slow and stupid, and were genuinely surprised to find out otherwise (think of Tex Cobb, or Dolf Lundgren, both "big guys" and both World Kickboxing Champions).

Little guys may have had more endurance in the long run (hence their success in places like Ranger School), but very few of the fistfights I've had in my life have lasted more than about 30-60 (violent and bloody) seconds, and the two times I got stuck (by little guys BTW), I didn't even know it until after I'd beaten the shit out of them.

I won't lie and say I won them all either.

But, when they do get their little asses whipped, they can always just say "Well, what do you expect, he's twice my size, but I took him on anyway (even though they instigated the fight in the first place). I only started one fight in my life (to protect someone else, and I got stuck for my trouble), but I've damned sure finished a bunch.

If they get lucky and win, then everyone thinks they are the toughest little rooster in town, and they walk around strutting and crowing "I kicked that big guys ass" (until the next time).

So it's all a matter of perspective. I'm not minimizing your experience, just expressing mine. I still maintain that I wouldn't go around publicizing getting my ass whipped by little Joe Pesci.

I didn't have Audie in mind -- but you're right...

Without question, the most talented, courageous warrior I ever met -- was a short, skinny, barely literate Southern black kid.... He had to have been the minimum height and weight the Corps would accept. He couldn't have weighed more than 120 pounds.

First - he had the courage to ENLIST in the Marine Corps of the very early 60's.....report to Boot Camp at the MCRD on Parris Island, South Carolina and put his life into the hands of a hard assed Redneck...

That step alone took more courage than can be imagined by todays young folks....

His abilities and extra "senses" contributed greatly to keeping a lot of us alive.

An idiot driving a speed boat, ran over him and killed him while on water skis....before he reached his 50th birthday. A horrible loss.

Reread my post....

I acknowledged a difference between a fist fight and a firefight...

Broward Community College student Juan Carlos Montenegro, 24, told police that Pesci punched him on Jan. 22 during an exchange at a Boca Raton shopping center. Montenegro told police that after encountering Pesci he shook the actor's hand and told him he was a big fan. He then purchased a camera, walked toward Pesci and asked for a picture, but the actor refused, the police report said.

Town Center? Mizner Park?

My parents once sat at the table next to Martin Scorsese at TooJays Deli in Boca. When is Ray Liotta going to show up?

You beat nicky with fists, he comes back with a bat, you come at em with a knife, he comes back with a gun, and if you come at him with a gun; you'd better kill him because he's gonna come back and back and back until one of you is dead.

Without exception....the mentally toughest bastards I ever served with would be considered "little guys" by stature --- but 800 pound gorillas when it came to heart and courage for the fight.

You described my grandfather to a T. 5'8, but could throw a punch that knocked out guys twice his size. Toughest guy I have ever met, and I've met some tough people.

In my home....it's 12 ga. shotguns..
Outside my home, its .45 Kimber Ultra CDP II

That's a .45 that can slip into the front pocket of a pair of jeans...and easily into a light jacket pocket..
Nearly invisible under a medium weight shirt...

Since this whole thread is about someone getting punched in the face by a famous miniature a-hole. I actually think that Pesci was probably justified in punching the guy. But my point was that I personally would be too embarrassed to tell the whole world all about it. I don't know why you decided to to inject "firefights" into the discussion?

I thought it was about fistfights all along.

Pesci's one of those actors I can't keep my eyes off when he's in a movie.

Loved My Cousin Vinny. Also loved him in JFK as the fruitcake with the red wig.

I have 4 12 ga scatterguns but they are strictly for birds and clays. They're too cumbersome for close quarter use. The wife has a Sig .380 P232 in her nightstand, and my Sig P226 9mm is in mine. I carry the .380 when we away go from home. All the self defence ammo is Remington Golden Sabre or CorBon. I looked at Glocks and Kimbers but like the weight of solid stainless steel.... Less recoil than from alloy or composites. The 40 S&W caliber was on my list, but I shoot better (re-acquisition) with a 9mm.

"I've seen the "big guys" wimp out -- and the little guy hang tough."

I agree. When I first moved to Virginia from Brooklyn I used to have to fight kids that were bigger than me. I was the smallest (shortest and skinniest) little girl in class and the other kids picked on me. I just got sick of it. Then I just started kickin' some tail. Girls, boys it didn't matter. (I never fought in NY because I was a little wimp and those Brooklyn kids were crazy ) After a while they stopped picking on me and I made some really good friends.

I'm afraid I'll have to decline on that bet, because I think you're right. The guy probably set the whole thing up this way just so he can sue.

Trendy areas that I haven't been to in a while. I'll have to go visit Mizner again, soon. They've done some nice things downtown. Still, we have our share of Hollywood actors to make things interesting. Pesci is lcuky that the fellow wasn't carrying, I'd have blown him away.
