Tonight's radio news out of WHAM, Rochester, NY reported the story of a basketball player who scored 20 points in four minutes at the end of the game. Autism wasn't mentioned. How cool for the young man to be honored for his accomplishment, with no reference to his disability. Thanks for the ping.

He was apparently a high functioning autistic - in other words - neither here nor there. You can read whatever you like into the situation, most of us have, but your read is a tad more negative than the majority who have chosen to comment.
It's part of the charm of FR, to have at least one freeper crap on a cute story.
Saw the video last night. Teared right up, of course!
Made me remember that there ARE millions of "good" kids (this boy AND his team mates!) out there, versus the gang bangers and thugs we read about every day. :)
How old is your son? Is he progressing. Our Adam was somewhat profound as a very little boy. We were told he was mentally retarded but by his last visit to the teaching hospital, it was beginning to become apparent the was not retarded.
He did not speak legibly until he was six. He has just gradually improved to we are now at the point we are. He is incredible and his mom says she wouldn't change a thing about him.
He's almost 13. He has not progressed since he was diagnosed at age 4. He does not speak, other than one-word requests for food or Disney movies. He is only semi-independent with eating and hygiene. He will be probably live with us the rest of our lives.
Mike Francesa of WFAN radio in NYC is talking about this right now.
