Support--but wish the Administration had gotten out ahead of this before the thing became a political football. Dems have scored WAY too many points with it!

Support. The pointers may change, but the leaf nodes remain the same.

Why did they (the Adminsitration) come out vocal in support?

Because Bush trusts his people. Sometimes even when he should not - i.e., Michael Brown.

Oppose. Wasn't happy to see the Chicomms take ports in California under Clinton, not happy to see this now...

I favor American run ports. In fact, I'd like to see Haliburton get this deal. Wonder what Hillary and Co would have to say about that? Bwahshahhaha!

You nailed it exactly.

Thats the main thing that bothers me about this whole deal.

Oppose due the chance that this Arab company will be infiltrated and corrupted ... and now it seems 21 ports are involved

However, I can't say that I like being on the same side of an issue as Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter isn't ALWAYS wrong. He was correct in stating that the country during his presidency was in "a malaise."

I'm not thrilled about it, but what's the realistic alternative?

My guess if we don't support this, then we can just kiss any kind of help from the UAE on terrorism goodbye.

And who is in a better position to gather intelligence, a bunch of lily-white agents, or fellow Arabs?

Support.

Why?

Doing business with people builds friendship.

It's the same reason we should trade with Chinese businesses.

Opening trade with Cuba would be a blessing for Cubans.

Trading with the Russkis helped break down the legitimacy of their sorry Soviet regime.

Doing business builds friendship and trust. This insight was developed by Americans - why abandon it now?

I would absolutely love to see Haliburton get the deal. That would be satisfying on several different levels.

Support. In a perfect world no American enterprise would be foreign run, but, then again my truck would also get 55 mpg, in 4 wd.
