Police Station Intimidation
CBS 4 Miami ^ | Feb 4, 2006 | Mike Kirsch

Most police officers are a credit to the badge, serving the community and the people who pay their salary, getting criminals off the street, making the community safer for everyone.

But on occasion, a police officer and a member of the public they serve don’t see eye to eye, and the citizen feels a need to complain. In many departments around the country, the process starts out simply: a person just requests a complaint form.

Police departments around the country, like here in Tallahassee, give citizens police complaint forms all the time, no questions asked. But walk into a police station in South Florida, trying to find out how to file a complaint, and watch what happens.

waiting for the 'LEO can do no wrong' crowd to defend the Lauderhill officer....i only watched that one but it is mind-boggling that anyone will defend that sort of behavior.

What? Don't you realize everything changed after September 11th?

Exactly.

I'm one of those types who'll err on the side of the police the vast majority of the time - but frankly, most of these cops are dickheads.

Particularly the Sea Ranch and Lauderhill cops.

I wonder how this guy would be treated if he was black. Chilling story.

in general the fact it is apparently not hard to find this kind of behavior should make any skeptical person reconsider whether the many complains about police behavior which don't have video or audio evidence might have more to them than pro-LEO readers would like to admit.

I wonder if the lauderhill cop was simply going to restrain him or taser him.

I think the story was one-sided. The guy shows up in the middle of the night and is evasive to the cop. The cops knew (probably from years of dealing with Adam-Henry's) that their chains were being pulled and didn't want to deal with it.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Many cops are no better than the people they arrest. (Please note that I said many, not ALL).

I know people don't like to hear that, but it is true. I have seen it with my own eyes. (Work-related)

Good point. I can see that.

But if you're the copy, you give the guy a form and say "Fill it out and send to to Sgt So-and-so at Internal Affairs. He'll contact you. Have a nice day".

That's how he should have dealt with the situation.

Not really, but I think the reporter was looking for that reaction and helped provoke it.

yeah if i ever have a serious issue with the lauderhill PD remind me to skip the complaint 'form' and just get a lawyer. IF that is just the front desk attitude, imagine the possibilities if the complaining party lived in their jurisdiction and actually did make the complaint.

Did you watch part two of the video? It's right next to part one and includes a segment on racial profiling. They had a white guy drive a car through town. He didn't get pulled over. Later they had a black guy do the same thing. He got pulled over even though he wasn't doing anything wrong. The officer claimed he was "veering". In reality the video shows that the only one veering was the cop.

Not really, but I think the reporter was looking for that reaction and helped provoke it.

All he did was ask for a form.
