Bush Accepts DP World's Offer of Review
The Miami Herald ^ | 02/26/2006 | TED BRIDIS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration said Sunday it will accept an extraordinary offer by a United Arab Emirates-based company to submit to a second - and broader - U.S. review of potential security risks in its deal to take over significant operations at six leading American ports. The plan averts an impending political showdown.

The Treasury Department said in a statement it will promptly begin the review once the company formally files a request for one. It said the same government panel that earlier investigated the deal but found no reason for national security concerns will reconsider it.

In six pages of documents sent earlier in the day to the White House, Dubai-based DP World asked for a 45-day investigation of plans to run shipping terminals in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.

The announcement means the White House likely won't face a revolt by fellow Republicans when lawmakers return Monday from a weeklong break. A united Republican Party can assert that its leaders - both in Congress and at the White House - have taken additional steps to protect national security.

I am kinda surprised that I did not see this posted anywhere.

It appears that congress is caving. The same group of people that investigated these guys before will be investigating them again.

Good move. As with the wiretapping story, this one will peter out, too.

I heard this same segment on radio news, along with something about the UAE government offered that, if need be, they could form a new company, based in the U.S., under U.S. regulations, to handle this contract.

Anyone else hear this?

No- I have not heard this. But I have to be honest- I have not turned on my TV since Thursday.

Can you imagine this? A UAE company is begging the US to investigate it again- after it had passed the first investigation. Wow

Mohammad didn't win anything and you know it but then again you are also known for being full of venom and hatred toward President Bush facts don't mean anything. You'd rather be known as a liar then support the President.

It was obvious from the day you signed up you were a retread troll and should have been banned a long time ago.

I thought this would be handled by a different government entity, not the exact same bunch of bureucrats who rubberstamped this sweetheart deal the first time. ARGGGHH!

The Bush fatigue factor is in full swing.

I saw on FOX that Shumer and Clinton are still making noise about this saying it should not have come from the company, but from the White House yada yada. So obviously their true colors will now come out. The Democrats opposing issue has never been national security, its making political hay for the Democrats at the expense of George Bush.
So we shall see.

I'll tell you as I told you before, take it up with administration...
and your first accusation was I had been banned before and was under a new nick....
now you come up with this lie....geez!!!

I voted for President Bush twice, but facts don't matter, so take your theory to administration.

You have one problem only, and that is the problem you have with my nick.

Yup, sounds like an impeachment offense to me. If the air in his bike tires was too low, that'll get him impeached as well. God forbide he should every break wind in public, they'd be screamin' to impeach him on wmd charges. :-)
