So possibly losing the UAE and other countries in the region is going to help us in the WOT how?
Losing? What the heck does that mean? If you are suggesting that we darn well better turn over port infrastructure to the UAE or the UAE will in fact commence overt alliance with Middle Eastern terrorists, then you are describing nothing less than international extortion, perhaps the worst reason offered yet by the apologists.
The very notion that we are trading port infrastructure for "intelligence", or because we fear the consequences of not doing it, is so short sighted and craven that I am surprised at its repeated assertion.
It is not the entire planet. No need to be paranoid about it, but we need to recognize that there is no guarantee that our views are preordained to be adopted by others. The world is indeed fortunate that the world's only superpower is the US. We must use this power and influence to shape the future.
Exactly!
Too many US citizens were robbed by the top Enron Management. Those Enron Bosses could NOT claim "diplomatic immunity".
Much of the "American Street's" worry over the "Port Deal" is tied to ENRON & television. The ENRON collapse showed us that Management may be Crooks. Courts MUST be able to try CROOKS. U.S. Television, from "Barney Miller" to "Law & Order", has shown abuses of Diplomatic Immunity. Hollywood has conditioned TV viewers to believe "Foreign Diplomats & Royals" will use their "Immunity" at any Opportunity! Hollywood has shown "Immunity" as a VALID DEFENSE for crimes; from Double Parking to Slavery, Shop Lifting to Counterfeiting.
Is it any wonder that the "American Street" doesn't like "Diplomatic Ownwership"?
If a Treaty, pre-empting any abuse
of "diplomatic immunity" had preceded this Deal, It might have passed the "Street Test".
