Nine former fans of American Idol star Clay Aiken are forging ahead with threats to sue his record label bosses for false advertising. The one-time devotees have been shocked by recent tabloid claims the wholesome pop singer is gay and they've filed a Federal Trade Commission complain against executives at RCA and Sony/BMG, alleging they were duped in marketing and promotional campaigns.
The nine-strong group, listing themselves as "aggrieved consumers," allege that employees of RCA, Sony/BMG, and Aiken himself "engaged in collusion to prevent public disclosures they believed might be harmful to their product." The angry ladies go on to state, "This is tantamount to a manufacturer concealing information about a defective product. Therefore these actions were both unfair and deceptive to consumers."
A spokeswoman for the group says, "As consumers, we feel ripped off. It is obvious now that the private Clay is very different from the manufactured packaged public Clay that was marketed to us." The group is asking the FTC to investigate the practices of the record companies, to invoke civil penalties where appropriate, and to enjoin the companies from violating the Federal Trade Commission Act.
Why would an eight year old even know about something like homosexuality?
It's a PR stunt.
My wife and I were hysterical when that thing told Simon that they hate it when they walk into the mens room people assume they are a girl and then even said, to Simon "I got the same plumbing as you.." We were ROTFL
Man, I certainly hope my fans don't sue the minor league football team that I play for. I was listed on the roster as 6' 210lbs, but I am really 5'11" - they will all be so upset and disappointed....
Poor Clay. I really don't care if he's gay or not.
I absolutely love his voice. :-D
And if he doesn't want the fact that he ~is~ gay advertised (if he is), why is anyone complaining?
I think that it would be a refreshing change of pace to see someone who doesn't feel the need to flaunt their sexual preference to the whole world.
And

Long term PR plan.
I don't know if he is, or if he isn't, but I do know that the tabloids have been speculating on it for a long time because he is an admitted virgin. Anyone man who is a virgin in the business just "has to be gay" in their eyes. Kathy Griffin has a whole stand-up act about how "gay" he is. He tells her he isn't, and she waves him off, "Whatever..."
I personally don't know. And I really don't care if he wants to be in the closet. But these former fans really need to get a life. That is simply pathetic.
Ha ha. Well, at least MY hero is not gay. No, sirree!
At least we don't have to worry about this kind of revelation from the Village People.
If this case does stand, the results will be very interesting.
Imagine a hollyweird where misrepresenting a performers sexual preferences can be used for misleading advertising. Remember Whats-her-name with Harrison ford in that island movie? (seven days or something) When she came out, her marketability as a romantic lead was over.
This was not an "in the closet" situation, this was the handlers going full bore to conceal and deny in order to be marketable to the female hormone crowd.
hahaha funny post.
Can I sue for R.E.M. and Wham?
The caption should be "I gotta get me some of these."
These former fans just want attention. They're hoping that Clay will call each of them personally to assure them that he isn't gay.
Or maybe call and thank them for defending his honor.
Believe me, some of his fans will go to any length to get close to him.
*rolls eyes*
Reminds me of the Eddie Murphy line from SNL:
"Parents, I can not emphasize enough, keep your boys away from the Ken doll!"
or this is setting up the tabloid for a damages claim.
hahaha I was watching tv while reading this thread and a commercial came on for Keebler's cookies with Fudge Stripes. Just made me laugh.
I'm trying to give a damn about who or what Clay Aiken sleeps with, or anybody else involved with "American Idol", including the judges, including Bill Hung, for that matter, and I just can't. Sorry.
Any number of reasons exist for this silliness.
It'll all come out in the wash eventually. It always does.
you can let them babysit your children...
Children learn from what they see and hear. This is one area impressionable children do not need exposure.
