Can you tell me why the following wouldn’t work?

A gas turbine that powers a generator that powers an electric motor that powers a car.

Gas turbines will run on just about anything that will burn and are efficient when run at a constant speed.

I don't know that that WOULDN'T work. (I don't think it's particularly efficient to change the forms of the energy so many times before it is applied to the drive wheels, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work.)

I simply meant that the hybrid diesel-electrics described in the article are not the best examples to compare to personal transportation. They are heavy-lift, variable load vehicles to which low-end torque is the most important consideration. For a personal vehicle, many other considerations come into play, including the esthetics.
