Morales was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of Terri Lynn Winchell, a 17 year old Lodi Tokay High school senior.
Terri was 17 and just months away from her high school graduation when she disappeared Jan. 8, 1981.
The next day her body was found in a vieyard in Lodi. She had been strangled, hit 23 times in the head with a hammer, raped and stabbed in the chest.
Morales was scheduled to die by lethal injection on Feb. 21, 2006.
On Jan 27, 2006 Kenneth Starr formally asked Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to spare the life of Morales because he was sorry for the rape and murder of Terri.
When that didn't work other lawyers representing Morales made a last ditch argument in court saying that lethal injection is a curel and unsual punishment because they don't know how much pain it will cause and should be ruled unconstitutional.
As Terri's parents sat waiting by the phone for updates by the family members planning to witness the execution they were told the execution had been postphoned indefinetely and they will have to wait months before another execution date MIGHT be set. One of Terri's best friends from high school. Her and the family are planning a Candle Light Vigil for March 3rd at Tokay High School in Lodi. Please help me and Terri's family and friends to light a candle for Terri

SAN FRANCISCO State officials on Tuesday postponed indefinitely the execution of condemned killer Michael Morales, saying they would be unable to comply with a judge's order that a medical professional administer the lethal injection.
Prison officials called off the execution of Morales, 46, after failing to find a doctor, nurse, or other properly licensed person to deliver a lethal dose of barbiturate, said Vernell Crittendon, a spokesman for San Quentin State Prison.

Twenty-five years have passed, but for Terri Winchell's classmates and family members who gathered Saturday at her grave site, the memories haven't faded.
They recalled classes at Tokay High School, and some even laughed briefly when they hugged and remembered pranks. But for the class of 1981, Winchell's death became the memory that would follow them through the years.

bashing in the head of a 17-year-old Lodi girl with a hammer, raping and stabbing her, then leaving her to die half-naked in a vineyard.
With his Tuesday execution looming, the Stockton high school dropout hoped to convince the governor that Terri Winchell's 1981 murder was a drug-fueled aberration for which he has spent his life atoning. Remorse and the corrective power of time lie at the heart of his last-ditch plea for mercy.

Also snipped from the link above..
By all accounts, Winchell, a Tokay High School senior who loved to sing, died horrifically on Jan. 8, 1981. The slaying grew out of a plot Morales' gay cousin, Ricky Ortega, hatched to get even with Winchell, who dated Ortega's bisexual lover. Ortega, 19 at the time, was angry Winchell allegedly told people he was gay.
Ortega, who is serving life in prison without parole, told investigators they didn't plan to murder Winchell when they lured her to his car, but he knew Morales, a gang member and convicted burglar, had a violent streak.
Morales choked Winchell with a belt from the back seat, but when the belt snapped, he bludgeoned her 23 times with a hammer. She struggled so hard patches of hair were torn from her scalp, according to the San Joaquin District Attorney's Office.
Morales dragged the unconscious girl into a nearby vineyard, raped her and stabbed her four times in the chest. Winchell's body was found two days later after Ortega confessed to police.

Total injustice.
I stayed up that night waiting for the monster's execution.
I remain livid and my heart breaks for her family.
Yes there was a discussion over the weekend on Fox, featuring Terri's brother Brad via telephone.
Talking heads were whining that the condemed cannot scream out or communicate when they are being administered.
So what? Did Morales hear Terri's screams?
A painless death is too good for this monster IMO.
