RSC issues its agenda

In a show of rhetorical force yesterday, the Republican Study Committee (RSC) issued an ambitiously conservative 10-point agenda for the rest of this year.

Calling their priorities “the nucleus of issues that minted this majority,” Chairman Mike Pence (Ind.) said, “The remainder of the 109th Congress should be dedicated to affirming our commitment to limited government, fiscal discipline and traditional moral values.”

Five of the 10 agenda items relate to budget reform, with one targeting earmarks. The RSC succeeded in pressing the House GOP leadership last year to seek offsets to supplemental spending on hurricane relief and in ginning up support of the budget-reconciliation bill that reduced spending by $39 billion.

The RSC also calls for making permanent the tax cuts that are set to sunset, enacting ethics reforms, creating private accounts under Social Security, protecting “religious freedom,” promoting “sanctity of life” legislation and passing a constitutional amendment that would forbid gay marriage.

If Pence spent as much time lobbying his cohorts on these issues as he does in front of a microphone than perhaps Congressman Pence who have some credibility on these issues.

More and more, Pence is sounding and looking like McLaim and Tancredo - just another anti-Bush media whore!

Pence and his band of rebels are the only things from keeping this party conservative. If not for people like Pence, this party would be in the minority because millions of real conservatives would leave.People like you are the reason we may lose the house in NOV and that we are getting closer to socialism everyday.

Pence always takes his case for conservatism to leadership and the President behind closed doors. When they do not listen,he does what Reagan always said to do;take your case to the American people.

Is there anything in there about protecting our borders?

Pence had better help his neighbors in the IN-08 and IN-09. If those districts fall to RAT hands, then Pence is useless as a Presidential candidate.

Pence HAS gotten a lot accomplished. He was the main factor in post-Katrina spending cuts. I suspect you dislike Pence due to ideological differences.

Waht is anti-Bush about this?

... “The remainder of the 109th Congress should be dedicated to affirming our commitment to limited government, fiscal discipline and traditional moral values.”

... it seems Pence is more interested in the Bush conservative agenda than anyone else!

I don't see how.

He helped pushed through the bill to build a wall/fence on the border.

That bill will probably die in the senate.

After pushing the best bill possible, its now kind of out of his hands.

The senate needs to hold up its end, but its to busy looking for the biggest kiss up to the open borders lobby it can find with a guest worker bill.

You respond like Bill Clinton would. Parsing the entirety of the Pence's positions is like looking for fly sh!t in the pepper.

Pence, like McLaim and Tacredo [and most of the demonRAT leadership], is nothing but an exploited media whore - going no where fast.

That's a rather insulting non-answer.

I've read the 10 point plan Pence put out - if implemented, Bush's approval ratings would go up 10 points and we would increase our margin in Congress. It's a pro-Bush agenda.

"That's a rather insulting non-answer." GOOD! You got my message.

You still sound like Bill Clinton - parsing any and everything said by [or about] your hero - Pence - to save your point.

He's a just another exploited media whore, going no where fast.
