MANY have argued that Hamas's winning of a decisive majority in the Palestinian Parliament provides yet another setback for peace and democracy in the Middle East. Some have even suggested that it vindicates Israeli unilateralism. I, however, think the opposite is true: A negotiated and lasting peace may now be closer than many of us could have imagined just weeks ago.
The parliamentary elections could be seen as a referendum on the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas, who came to office a year ago after winning nearly two-thirds of the popular vote. Mr. Abbas ran on a platform of job creation, internal security and a negotiated resolution of the conflict with Israel based on two states living side by side in peace.
Many people believe that Mr. Abbas did not deliver. Today, there are fewer jobs, not more; security for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Gaza Strip is worse, not better; and negotiations, like the two-state solution, are stalled.
Mr. Abbas, however, is not ultimately to blame. When he called on Israel to lift restrictions on Palestinian movement and trade within and between Palestinian areas, Israel refused despite similar calls from the World Bank, the United Nations, the European Union and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The restrictions translated not just into more poverty but also into less security, for Mr. Abbas could not even move police forces within Palestinian territory.

If you don't like Abbas, Hamas ain't so bad either.

If you're determined to believe that the Palestinians are peace-loving people, I guess you can always find a way to rationalize the evidence to fit your theories!
I hope it's clear that my post #4 refers to the NYT and not you!
LOL. Yeah!
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.

Death and destruction.
I mean, they never tire of reminding everyone of the justice of killing Jews. And it's always couched in the fascist ideology of blood, race, and soil, you know, to be more appealing to the Jihadists.
I agree that the HAMAS election victory is a good thing.
FATAH could claim that HAMAS we not under its control, so when bombings and missile strikes occurred, they could claim that they were not at fault, and that this should not interfere with the peace process.
With HAMAS in charge, ANY attack against Israel is, by definition, sanctioned by HAMAS; and thus the attack can be assumed to be an act of war by the Palistinian entity.
Sort of changes the rules of engagement. If a terrorist bombs you from another State, you are not allowed to attack the State; if another State attacks you, it is perfectly permissible to bomb the s**t out of them.
bttt
when is it NOT "pro-Pallie Day" at the Slimes?
Every day is pro-sonovabitchesofallsorts day at the NYT's.
Pretty sharp reasoning there, Mr Knife.
"Israel's fault"
Yeah, they never miss a chance to blame Israel. Meanwhile, they get out their crying towels for the Palestinians. The Times, and its fans, are not to be trusted by intelligent people.
In this half a sentence there lies wisdom, yet the fool that wrote it will never be able to comprehend it. What is apparent is the more money that is poured into the Palestinian "quagmire" the more oppressed the people are. What is also apparent is that the less Jews that live in the "occupied" territories, the harder life is and the less jobs their are. The third and last clue for the perpetual clueless it is indeed "occupied" this land, but not by Jews, for not a single Jew now lives in the occupied territories, just Arabs.
I have a solution that is also impossible for the brain dead to understand. Let the Arabs go back to Arabia and the Jews to Judea, the Hebrews to Hebron. After all, the Arabs own 99.5% of the Middle East, owning 99.75% of it will not bring peace, the lack of Arab invaders in Israel will.
It is not the Jews fault the Muslims are beheading Christian children in Somalia or Indonesia or blowing up Night clubs in Bali or Buses in London, or trade centers in America. Is is the Muslims fault.
Islamic oppression will not be cured by making more Muslim Allah Allah income free areas, nor will it be cured by pouring our tax dollars into such sinkholes. If the Muslims cannot create society with the boondoggle of oil, who in their right mind can believe that pouring cash on top of that will help?
One thing I have never seen is a leftist with a right mind...
"The Hamas victory cannot be allowed to obscure the reality: the Palestinian people want a negotiated peace"
Yeah like Oslo. They want a negotiated lapse in Israeli security so they can launch Intifada 3.
