Ahern appeases the IRA. Voting for his party gives power to Sinn Fein/IRA.

So I guess I wasn't that far off:
Thanks to Google, Microsoft & the rest of the "Korporate Krupps'", presumably writing fortune cookie scripts is about the only gainful employment "... a post-WWII anti-Communist Chinese journalist" is going to get these days.
Perhaps you should worry more about the de facto Marxist-Wall St. pro-slavery cartel's black - or whatever color - listing & worse in your own backyard & less about Canada?

New Zealand is still a heckuva lot closer than most of the rest of the world...

BunnySlippers wrote: But WHY does he hate the USA? Is it because he's a Canadian? Or more likely because he's a professor? Good question. I suspect it's because of his politics. He's obviously bright ... PHD in philosophy and degrees in piano theory. Has a real air of superiority. I do know I'm not anxious to discuss the issue with him. He is a jerk.Succinct, but I'd like to hear what his POV is.

The major differnec though , not dicused in he findings of the study, is the system of government in Canada as opposed to the USA's.
It is rife with patronage, family compacts, and is ideologically challenged. The Candian government does not reflect the culture of the Canadian people.
The Government of Canada is a curse upon its own population.

So, it turns out that Canadians are very similar to Americans ... there's a shock. </sarcasm>

The real major difference between our nations is the magnificent U.S. Constitution & the freedoms it enshrines & protections it ultimately affords.
Our Parliament vs. your Congress?
IMHO, all pigs look pretty much the same when they're at the trough.

According to the polls and the media most of the world hates us. Putting aside all the problems with polls, or survey in this case, let us assume that is true. The question then becomes, for some, why? Envy.

My neighor who owns the house right next to me is a Canadian ... and a university professor. And he hates the USA.
Tell him I'll pick up the tab for his bus ticket home any time.

Envy. That is a possibility but the average guy on the street in many of those countries wouldn't even know about us except for their government blaming all their problems on us.
Envy, jealousy, resentment, whatever, all must have a core. I think it is media agitation.

Rationale behind most political correctness no matter where you go/are:
GREED and/or ENVY.
Hardly a uniquely Canadian or American phenomena: like leftists wherever you go hating America / blaming Bush.

I assume you mean those to be basic human traits as opposed to being strictly an aspect of PC.
IMO, the PC movement is an attempt to force people to suspend judgment, or at least not voice it, in order to further moral relativism and to make the masses more compliant to a central control. It stifles complaints and even discussion of some key issues for society.

We're on the same page of the Hymnal FRiend - but perhaps it would have been clear if I'd stipulated that, while these negative traits are universal, they're inherent to & actively encouraged by Marxist-originated PC thought control.

Communism is very clever in using our freedoms and human foibles to further its cause. They somehow seem able to also get us to pay for their efforts. Because of their tactics and lack of morals or standards in employing them, it is easy to see this as a battle between good and evil, man and Satan.

,,, I thought NZ would have some proximity to Europe in this regard, but was surprised to see how far from Sweden it stood in this graphic.
To: shaggy eel
I thought New Zealand would be de facto much more secular-oriented than this graph shows - as you mentioned NZ has long been regarded as the English-speaking world's Sweden. But still it shows that this country is half way between the United States and Holland in terms of values.

Interesting to note that the universities of Canada are run by draft dodging Americans that ran. Many of the Draft dodges of the Vietnam era became Canada's teachers and professors. These are the people that fed hate of everything American like pablum to the masses. Those that they taught are now doing their best to keep the BS growing.
