Hmmm. All this from one data point?

This is crap science.

Well, she got her photo and story printed in the media...isn't that what counts?

This is crap science.

What jumps out at me is that the same data point is being used to estimate brain/body size ratio, and simultaneously to estimate the body size.

Hopefully when this is properly published and vetted there will be more data points and/or comparisons to other specimens.

Until then, this is all but useless.

This text is little more than an introduction for popular consumption.

And in other news from campus:

Letter from President David P. Roselle

"The great majority of the members of our University community are aware that a graduate student in the Department of Physics, Robert Thomas Huber, has been identified as a skinhead."

As long as academics are allowed to publish anything under the guise of "truth" it will be reported as fact. Caveat Emptor

My first thought, too.

Sorta reminds me of a comment my wife made when we saw an NBA game the other night -- one of the Orlando Magic players has what appears to be a really tiny head on his very tall body. We were up in the nosebleed section, and even from up there it was noticeably smaller than the heads of the guys around him.

One wonders what this lady would make of his skeleton....

This is patently absurd.

What is the "modern" brain size? Look at the people around you next time you're on a subway, bus, or plane. Imagine arranging their skulls on a continuum from the little bird-like woman to the big jarhead. What an evolutionary "transition" you could prove -- except that they're all alive at the same time!

I've found at least 30 skeletons over the past 15 years, 20 or so of those were chopped into pieces and buried in separate places. One of these was a severed head(complete with hack marks on the vertebrae). This skull was almost twice the size of mine. I'm 6'1" and have the largest noggin of anyone I know. Whoever was separated from they're better half was obviously MUCH larger than me. But, the only problem was that I found it at least 8 feet down within a layer of artifacts dating to about 6000 BC. The closest natives I know of matching that heigth and size would be the Karankawa's on the Texas coast, but they weren't around that far back. The other interesting detail there was about the skull was that the plates had already fused, indicating old age. (for those of you that are concerned about me digging up your long lost ggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggreat-grandmother, I always bury her back. And, the ones that are chopped up have been damned on purpose by their fellow 'Native American' killers to walk the earth as lost spirits forever, or until they find they're other half. Either way, I still put them back and say a prayer.)

So, where does my discovery fit into the evolutionary line?
Anyone? ... Beuler? ... Beuler? ... Beuler?
