That Needs To Change!
Human events- Online ^ | March 6, 2006 | Phyllis Schlafly

"That needs to change" was Oprah Winfrey's reply to Nan Talese of Doubleday, publisher of "A Million Little Pieces," after James Frey's "memoir" was exposed as a tissue of lies. Doubleday had tried to escape responsibility by saying that publishers don't fact-check nonfiction books.

To President George W. Bush's approval of the $6.5 billion sale of terminals at six of our most important ports to the United Arab Emirates, Americans are shouting, "That needs to change." We are fed up with the post-Sept. 11 failure (i.e., the refusal) of the Bush administration to secure our borders and ports.

Bush's defense is, "Trust me." Sorry about that. Bush's constituency prefers the Reagan maxim, "Trust but verify."

Ports pose a vital security concern because fewer than 5 percent of the more than 14 million containers that go through U.S. ports every year are inspected. We hope the other 95 percent of containers don't contain bombs or contraband.

The fact that the UAE has been helpful in some...

Phyllis Schlafly and Shawn Hannity are among the most vocal opponents of this deal. Surprisingly Rush seems to think it is a good deal. Someone has to be wrong! According to Phyllis the Red Chines takeover of the Port of Long Beach, CA was defeated. I must have slept through that.

I was defeated once but I think the Chinese are now in residence at Long Beach.

Thanks for the link. I wonder why Phyllis made the comment that the Red Chinese did NOT get the Port of Long Beach?

COSCO Shipping was bidding to take over the old Navy Base in Long Beach, (400 Acres), second largest terminal in the U.S. The deal was stopped, and another company got the terminal. (Hanjin Shipping) COSCO calls at every major West Coast port. Long Beach, Oakland, and Seattle. They do not operate terminals, but they do have joint partnerships in some terminals.

"Doubleday had tried to escape responsibility by saying that publishers don't fact-check nonfiction books."

I hope that's a lie, or maybe all their books are filled with untruths. Surely they must go through some vetting.

Phyllis has my vote. That woman knows how to think and communicate. I cannot recall a difference I have ever had with her opinions beginning back with the ERA movement that she defeated.

The Article is wrong. As my previous post said. COSTCO lost the bid, largely because of them being from Mainland, (Communist) China. Hanjin Shipping, (South Korea), operates the terminal.
