I (and many other theologians) will argue that many times in the Bible when "death" is referred to it means spiritual death, not simply death of the flesh. No person who is blessed will ever "die" so when it's referred to you must first infer the meaning of eternal damnation.

I wonder if Matthew was familiar with men who rape their children or women who allow their second or third husband beat the living sh*t out of their children.

Biiiiig difference between "let him die" and "kill him." Plus, um, how is it that one sentence takes up four verses? You may want to do a better job at checking sources. If you did, you'd seen it is a reference, not a teaching.
