Live Thread- Texas Primary Election Returns
Texas Secretary of State ^ | 03-07-2006 | Me

Posted on 03/07/2006 3:59:27 PM PST by COEXERJ145

First time I've ever tired a Live Thread.

The Polls close in an hour in the Texas GOP & Democrat Primaries. There are also four state wide ballot propositions.

Statewide Ballot Propositions are:

Prop 1 Proposes requirement of photo ID to vote in any Texas Election

Prop 2 Prohibit takings of private property

Prop 3 Limit government spending increases with some exceptions

Prop 4 Reduce property tax increase rate to 5% or less

Any pre-polling indicators how these proposals will fare?

Wish those ballot propositions were on the ballot here in Colorado

I haven't seen any polls or such about them but I suspect they'll all pass.

They're not really statewide propositions. In the REPUBLICAN (ONLY) Primary, each voter has the opportunity to vote for or against these statements. The theory is that if there is overwhelming support for any or all, it's a good way to put some pressure on the Republicans in the State House and Senate to actually enact similar legislation. The Governor would likely sign any such bills sent to him.

You right, I should have made it clear.

I'll ask the mods to fix it.

Mods, could you please fix an error I made.

"There are also four state wide ballot propositions" could you change it to "There are also four state wide ballot propositions (recommendations) in the Republican Primary"

I'm soon off to vote, and stay for the
precinct convention.
Who should I vote for?

Unless you're in Brazos County or District 17, I can't make any real suggestions.

I want DeLay to win to shut these fools up once and for all.

How's it going for him?

Don't know. I don't trust what the media says (we all know what the media thinks of Delay) and being 100 miles north of his District, haven't heard anything other than what has been on the news.

I read an article the other day that said Tx is a cross-over state. That is Dims with no serious race in a particular area can vote in the GOP primary to try to screw things up.

That means the spin on a Delay win is that the Dim voters are crossing over for him, hoping for a conviction prior to the general election.

There is also an interesting Dim v. Dim, hispanic v. hispanic primary. The Moveon types are trying to pick off more mainstream Dim, Gonzalis [sp?], I think.

This is the "news report" I heard on the drive home a little while ago: "DeLay, who faces strong competition....."

That's all I know. Thank the Lord we have the MSM to keep us updated ;-)

Henry Cuellar is the Democrat (very conservative one too) that the Moveon/DailyKos kooks are after.

It is for U.S. House District 28.

He is running against Victor Morales and Ciro D. Rodriguez with Rodrigeuez being the one pushed by the DailyKos.

I read an article the other day that said Tx is a cross-over state.

In Texas when you register to vote you don't declare a party affiliation. The party affiliation is determined by which party's primary you chose to vote in. In that election cycle you have to stay in that chosen party affiliation for any runoffs that may occur. At the beginning of a new election cycle you receive a new registration card and the process begins anew.

I can't give you any specifics as I've not heard anything from the district. But I'll leave you with one thought.... DeLay is in Washington D.C. tonight. That tells me his internals tell him he has nothing to worry about regarding the primary or else I think he'd be back in the district trying to rally voters..

JMO... and surely isn't worth more than you are paying for it.
