A precinct in Atacosa and one in LaSalle came in, and Cuellar now leads Ciro 45.54% to 42.74%, with most of the votes having been cast closer to San Antonio than Laredo. I'm cautiously optimistic about Cuellar's chances of getting over 50%, but it's obviously way too early to tell (only 1.45% of precincts reporting).

If Cuellar and Delay win, I'll be happy even if Van Taylor wins District 17. That will mean I'll have Chet Edwards as my Congress Critter for two more years.

Unfortunately, we only moved into the area less than a year ago, so I am not too well versed in the local political scene.
But I wanted to vote and I originally was leaning towards Van Taylor solely on the fact he was a former Marine. But as the campaign progressed I couldnt help but notice he seemed to have digressed terribly into just a smear campaign.

As a result, Tucker Anderson got my vote.

Early results: (1% of the votes)

Van Taylor - 53%
Tucker Anderson - 47%

I think Taylor will win but he has no chance in the general election. Chet Edwards is Very popular and in 2004 a very conservative Republican couldn't unseat him although it was close.

Gutter politician Taylor won't even get close.

When I finally went on the net and got the location there were signs all over the schools campus that read ''DEMOCRATS VOTE HERE''.

I think those signs were illegal. "Vote here" is the only sign that should be allowed inside the 100 ft (I think) of the entrance.

Great; hopefully no upset there. How about the race in your 17th district? How is it going?

Not well.

Looks like the idiot Van Taylor is going to squeak out a victory.

That ensures Democrat Chet Edwards will be reelected in November.

I really, really hope Delay wins big. That will shut some people up for ... maybe 30 seconds.

That is bad then. What is the make up of the 17th district, i.e. Republicans, democrats, independents?

So why is a democrat winning the congressional seat in this district? Is he a conservative democrat?
