Barry Bonds - the man that puts the "ass" in asterisk.
At least with Mark McGuire, who as a rookie hit 49 home runs and was a HUGE physical specimen, you can argue he had the power to begin with, and the fact that over HIS CAREER his home run to AT BAT ratio is right there with the BABE, you know he was always a Home Run hitter.
However with Barry Bonds there is NO SUCH normality. His prodigious home run hitting in the LATTER stage of his career is quite definitively a product of steroid enhancement.
Nothing of what Bonds was taking at the time was illegal. Please tell me I am wrong.
What I am saying is IF it was legal at the time, no problem. It it was illegal, I agree, throw the bumb out. Pretty simple.

He is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to any and all baseball fans. If he had an ounce of pride--he would retire. He is an arrogant, shameless cheater.
Hi All!! Call me for a autographed copy!
Bonds should never pass neither Ruth nor Aaron. What a fraud.
Yeah, I guess he put on a little weight. Ruth did it with beer and whiskey.
If someone wants to alter their physicality to play a better game of sports, let them. It bothers me only in that others play by one set of rules, others cheat. Allow steroid use, blood doping, whatever someone wants within the law of states and the feds.
Ditto
Isn't Bonds the player who had that little sit down with his son and some sports reporters last year and did a minor kookout on them? Hasn't he been flipping out and had a 'woe is me' negative attitude with the sports journalists, or am I thinkig of someone else?

These are Bonds average yearly stats through 1997 when he turned 34. Mid to late 30's is when a lotta careers start to tank. And this twelve year career certainly did not merit HOF consideration. Assuming he averaged the 31 Hr/yr pace, he would have needed 5 more years to hit 500. without the 'roids -- NO WAY!
If you want to see his average stats for the 1998-2003 seasons...you see an entirely different story. He has his best years when he is physically past his prime.

Nuff said. The guy is ferakazoid cheater who has been allowed to perpetrate fraud by a lotta people...his managers (Dusty Baker comes to mind), his ownership, the league offices...they all had to know.
Baseball is no better than the WWF in my mind now.
But since the league won't do that because they will lose viewers and fans for his run as the greatest home run hitter ever--and money is the driving force in baseball (as it is everywhere)--here is another option.
Bonds has admitted using steroids, although he claims he didn't know (yarite) that the topical cream was steroids, there is a simple solution. Since the league is obviously NOT taking the use of preformance-enhancing drugs seriously, anyone like Bonds who either admits steroid use, or fails to pass a drug test (like Palmeiro) SHOULD be allowed to continue to play.
However, once steroid use is confirmed, they should be required to wear an "S" on their uniforms (like the Captain wears a "C") to identify them as steroid users or 'cheaters'. A asterisk would also be required for the record books.
