Bodies of 23 Found in Baghdad

Wednesday, March 08, 2006

BAGHDAD, — At least 23 bodies — many of them hanged — were found dumped in parts of Baghdad, while a string of explosions killed at least four people in the Iraqi capital, police said Wednesday.

An American military patrol investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle found 18 bodies late Tuesday in an abandoned minibus in west Baghdad, Iraqi police and U.S. forces said. The victims — all men — had been handcuffed, blindfolded and either hanged or shot to death, police Lt. Maitham Abdul-Razzaq said.

At least two appeared to be foreign Arabs, he added.

The bus containing the bodies was found on the road between Amariyah and Khadra, two mostly Sunni Muslim neighborhoods in one of Baghdad's most dangerous sections, Abdul-Razzaq said.

The bodies were taken to Yarmouk Hospital, where Dr. Mohanad Jawad confirmed two of the victims had been shot to death and the rest hanged. Their deaths appeared recent, he said.

In Wednesday's violence, a bomb hidden under a parked car near the University of Technology exploded as police from the interior minister's protection force were driving through central Baghdad, killing at least two people and injuring five, police Maj. Abbas Mohammed Salman said. The minister was not in the convoy, he said.

Another bomb missed an American convoy on the northern outskirts of Baghdad and killed two Iraqi boys who were selling gasoline by the side of the road, police Capt. Qassim Hussein said. He estimated their ages at between 10 and 11.

Elsewhere, police found the bodies of four men in an open field in Baladiyat, a mixed Sunni-Shiite neighborhood in east Baghdad. The victims had been handcuffed and hanged, police Capt. Mahir Hamad Moussa said, noting the rope marks on their necks.

Wasn't Baghdad the heart of Saddam Hussein's support.

The people there having all the amenities while everyone else suffered deprivations?

Bahgdad makes up part of the Sunni Triangle. (Ramadi, Tikrit, Samarra, Fallujah)
But remember, there was a Gallop poll done in Sept. 2003, and 2/3 of Baghdad residents said it was worth the hardships they'd endured to get rid of Saddam. So how much loyal support did he really have?

I wish I knew the real truth of who is doing what to whom in Iraq.

The MSM is lying thru their teeth on everything about Iraq.

You'll find much more truth here on FR than in the MSM. Lots of folks THERE who can clear some of it up...

At least two appeared to be foreign Arabs, he added.

Best case scenario: foreign Islamofascists known by the Sunnis to be involved in the Mosque bombing or some other rogue operation. They are cleaning up their own mess.

Worst case scenario: Sunni and foreign Islamofascists killed by Sadr loyalists or some other Shiite militia.

I suspect Iraqis know who is doing what without a score card. In the meantime, we can do no more than stand by and hope that reason prevails once the smoke clears.

Who is doing the killing and why?

Why don't the locals turn them in?

Handcuffed? Hmmmmmmm. What people do we usually find in handcuffs?

2 were foreigners, 2 were shot as opposed to being hanged. The same 2?

"What people do we usually find in handcuffs?"

What people do we usually find using handcuffs?

I wouldn't necessarily consider your best case scenario outside the bounds of reason in this case and given the circumstances.

Looking at these - executions of both foreign and local, dumped in a Sunni area - tells me it's a telegraphed message. "See what happens? Learn."

I think the locals DID turn them in, but not to any national authority. This was vigilante justice.

The local Iraqi neighborhoods work with us quite well. The rapid recruitment and training of an effective Iraqi Army is proof. They're motivated to assume control of their own lives, and they want ALL foreign influence out.

AQIZ are getting desperate - they could not stop three elections and a legal democratic government forming. The strategy of "Kill an American a day, and the Media will force them to leave" has failed. So, they are now resorting to spectacular terror attacks, like the mosque bombing, knowing the Media will lead with blood.

Fox News reported this morning that it looked like all of the bodies were non -Iraqi Arabs. Sounds like they are cleaning house.

That's my first thought. And it's about time. I'd love to see this happen throughout the muslim community. IMO that'd be the first real Islamic-wide indication of something tremendously positive.
