Breaking Christian News via MSNBC ^ | March 8, 2006 | Teresa Neumann

... a recent MSNBC.com/Zogby International poll show that movie fans believe Hollywood's values are not in line with the rest of America.

When asked if they thought Hollywood values were at odds with those of most of America, 60 percent agreed. When asked if they thought the success of such gay-themed films such as Brokeback Mountain, Transamerica and Capote reflected Hollywood's values or the growing acceptance of alternative lifestyles, respondents were fairly evenly split.

... when asked if they would go to see a movie that had been critically praised which had a message or values they did not agree with, 56 percent said they would not go to see it. Respondents were "overwhelmingly negative" about the movies coming out of Hollywood in recent years.

Lastly, the report stated that as for the Oscars themselves, 51 percent indicated that they would not watch the March 5 show even though most (55 percent) described themselves as regular watchers who paid attention to the nominations (66 percent).

Considering this is MSNBC, the figure is more likely 75%.

But it IS good news that Americans "ain't buyin'" this gorp as they used to. I read about a recent film in which the heavyweights, Tom Hanks being one of them, changed their contracts so that they didn't get their take before the movie makers got their profits back, and it was a substantial cut for him in the up-front pay. Others have been doing the same thing. (How big of an ego does an actor have in order to demand and get his wages before the film makers get one dime of return?)

I'm amazed the number isn't higher. If asked if I would drop $10 for two and a half hours of being lectured by idiots, it'd be a negative answer every time. Regardless of cinematography.

The movie that started the trend way back in 1975.

The Rock Horror Picture Show

The last movie I went to see was Maverick w/ Mel Gibson and James Garner. H'wood puts out garbage, in keeping with their moral values.

Hollywood is consistently beaten with the bludgeon of reality and still they persist throwing away hundreds of millions in potential revenue to pursue their misguided foaming mouth Crusade against themselves and America.

I think they are starting to find out as Americans are staying away from the movies in droves when you have these problems going to a movie theater:

1. The cost of a ticket--even matinee--is getting ridiculous.

2. The cost of concessions is definitely ridiculous.

3. The cost of getting a babysitter so parents can go out to evening movie showings.

4. Sound and picture quality is not as good as promised.

5. Uncomfortable seats in many screening rooms.

6. Disappointing small projection screens in many multiplex theaters.

7. Movie patrons being rude by talking during the film and not turning off cellphones and pagers.

8. Too many trailers and commercials shown before the feature presentation.

9. Americans can't stand the preachy Leftist attitude of too many Hollywood stars.

Is it small wonder why Americans are buying home theater sound systems and projection TV's at a record pace?

From Rush:

(George Cloony boasts about being "out of touch"):

"Stop the tape. By out of touch, what he means here is that they're not selling a lot of tickets at the box office anymore. They are not making good old entertaining movies, and the ones that are big blockbusters like King Kong, they're bombing out, and they're not making their money back. So you had these little boutique independent films here such as the ones that were nominated, and they're all statement movies."

"When he says, "we're out of touch," what he's really saying is we know we're making movies that are clashing with this culture, and we intend to. That's what we are here to do. We are here to clash with the culture because we think the culture that doesn't like us is all wet."

"You're a bunch of rubes and hayseeds, and we're not going to change what we do so you will like us because we don't want to be like you. So we're going to keep ramming the garbage that we make down your throats even if we are out of touch, and we're going to be proud to be out of touch because we're the elites and you're the plebes and we don't want to be like you."

"If we can fool you into buying tickets to our movies, we'll do that. But we're not going to sit here and make excuses for who we are. All right, here's more."

I have avoided the cinema for the most part for many years, but have enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, installment one of Narnia, "Pride and Prejudice" and "Walk the Line" recently. Also, "The Incredibles." I am hoping hollywood is going to finally figure out that their self-absorption is costing them.

I take this poll, together with box office take decreasing, as a useful measure of the viewing public's shift away from the trash heap.

I agree. The box office take is the best measure. Let's hope it ends up in the cellar soon.
