The devil's in the details. This is a poll that was conducted by telephone in both English and Spanish, and involving both citizens and non-citizens. Predictably, the non-citizens favored immigration. CBS has clumped both groups together in its story. A more accurate reporting of the poll results is at: http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/14227789p-15051419c.html ,
and shows that 73 percent of those polled are concerned about the impacts of immigration.
I'm a citizen of the U.S., and I favor immigration.
One city council is one city council. How many city councils are there in this country? How many people does this ONE (1) city council represent in proportion to the American population of around 298 million.
Last I checked, 3.7 million divided by 298 million = 1.24%
Do you favor ILLEGAL immigration? That is the issue of concern.
I do not think anyone should break the law. But I also think there are higher priorities than rounding up illegal immigrants who are breaking no other law, so that's why I support immigration reform. Something like a Bracero-type program may work.
And, please don't tell me that "illegal" immigration is the only concern of some FReepers here who want to stop ALL immigration and even deport UNITED STATES citizens.
Don't get caught up in the mis-info campaign.
Arnold has made numerous statements opposing illegal immigration. Hillary made a statement opposing illegal immigration. This does not mean that they oppose immigration reform
Bush has made numerous statements supporting immigration reform. Many others have made statements supporting immigration reform. This does not mean that Bush, or many others, supports illegal immigration.
"also, the 4.4 million Catholics make the L.A. Archdiosese the largest in the country."
4.4 million Catholics in the Los Angeles Archdiosese is unquestionably a lot. But how can one say they all agree on this? You can't get 100% of Americans to agree the sky is blue.
Illegal aliens? What are those?
"Don't get caught up in the mis-info campaign."
Arnold supports the minutemen. That's more then one can say for president Bush.
Well, if they don't go along with Cardinal Mahony, they won't be Catholics much longer.
This runs exactly counter to a Field Poll that was done only a couple of months ago.
In fact, every indicator is that the issue is hotter than ever.
We're fully into phony poll season...Leftists doing their best to try and push public opinion, not gauge it.
Even your uber-hero, Tancredo, has said that the illegals can't be deported.
You're gonna need to find another horse to ride.
Betcha they'd get deported if the decision was made by national referendum.
60-40 or better...
The polling data discussed in the article at the top of this thread contradicts you.
In this case, it's more like phony reporting season. CBS has picked and chosen from among a set of statistics that pretty much match the last Field poll.
So, the Field Poll you like is O.K., but the Field Poll you don't like (same exact company you know) is "phony"? LOL
