DENVER -- The case of the Aurora teacher who made comparisons between President George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler has now hit the state Legislature.

State senators are considering whether to give school districts greater protection to fire teachers who present biased views in the classroom. It wouldn't apply to teacher Jay Bennish, only future cases.

The Cherry Creek School District is investigating Bennish's comments. A recording of 20 minutes of his lecture has been made public but he has said the rest of the 50-minute class balanced out those comments.

State Sen. Doug Lamborn saif school districts may fear lawsuits if they fire teachers for presenting unbalanced views. The Colorado Springs Republican is trying to amend a teacher license bill to add showing a pattern of failing to provide balanced viewpoints is grounds for dismissal.

Under current law, the reasons a teacher can be fired include a physical or mental disability, immorality, unsatisfactory performance, insubordination or conviction of a felony.

A vote on Lamborn's amendment was delayed Thursday to give lawmakers time to think about adding it on to the bill.

Absolutely, but unfortunately I don't think he'll be fired. They'll tell him it was a nono and not to do it again.

No. He won't be fired. But watch a bunch of parents request transfers or whatever is available to keep him from teaching their kids next year.

CO's legislator is dominated by RATS, thanks to a wishy washy Republican Governor.

This bill won't see the light of day.

I'm just praying our legislator doesn't wack us, let alone make any moral progess in legislation.

Unbalanced views? That's understated. This damn Bennish sounded more like a political officer for moveon.org

Exactly right. There are teachers and there are propagandists. Bennish is a propagandist for the global Communist community. His job is to make new little Commies. Schools shouldn't have to pay him for that and they should be able to fire his goatsmelling ass when they tire of his bovine scatology. From what I've heard out of this jughead over the last week, I've decided that he isn't fit or qualified to be a teacher. That is, when he is put up against the old standards when teachers actually taught.

If the schools really cared, they would set strict guidelines on course content and monitor all classes.

Yes. Conservatives keep talking about demographics, that the fact that conservatives having more kids than liberals will make the country more conservative. But when school and colleges are indoctrinating kids like this, I don't see how the demographics will ultimately help.
