"The large influx of "northerners" have made a big impact..."

Oh... dang! You mean I'd be a... a... "northener"? That settles it! I'm not going. ;-)

Stay in Carolina.

FL offers mediocre public schools, overpriced real estate, and clogged roads. I love the state, but uncontrolled growth has done a number over the past 20 years.

My wife and I moved from Northern VA to Tampa back in 2004, and we love it here! Tampa is a great place to live and work. IMHO, the best housing deals are in the Riverview area...you'll get the same house for $100K less than in New Tampa or other "posh" areas. We live in Riverview and got a 2400 sq ft house right on a big lake, only 15 minutes from downtown, for only $208K. Plenty of big banks and telecom companies here, too, so finding a job should be relatively easy.

COME ON DOWN!!!

I'm not a Floridian, but with the predicted increase in hurricanes and damages for the next five years or so ... I'd stay put. You'll loose more than you will gain. Just my 2 cents.

Sending a cigar smoker some of those hand made stogies from Ybor City is a way to make "life long" friends! I have done it for several people and they have NEVER forgotten it!

Yeah, buddy...we love Ybor...cigar heaven!!!

Way back when, the CB radio guys used to call St. Pete,
"Wrinkle City". Blue hairs everywhere with their cars governed to 15mph. We used to call the place, 'city of the newly wed and nearly dead'. Still apply?

The new owner (can't remember his name) seems to be an okay guy...Namoli was a character from the beginning.

We were downtown the other day (my kid had some friends here during their spring break) and Al Lang stadium was full.

I remarked to my son that I'd never seen it that full, there were even people sitting outside the park watching through the fence.

We came to the conclusion that probably the Rays weren't playing, or were playing another team that was worth watching, LOL.

Clearwater is like a Scientological Vatican City, so I'd stay to the south of the Tampa area and avoid Clearwater whenever possible.

I think many of the original people who live here would consider a "northerner" to be someone who transplanted their lifestyle desires and looks down on the "southerner". If you feel that way about us, then I guess you are a "northerner". Because we are so rare, we do have many friends that live here from other places. We also have "snowbirds". Ask me if you want to know what they are.

Brocatos is still open. I think I saw a news report that a stolen car crashed into one of their windows the other night. I may be wrong about the name since I just caught a snippet of the news.

No, lots of young people and now we seem to be the envy of even Tampa.

They revitalized the downtown area. Museums, a couple of college campuses (USF and SPC), an entertainment center called Baywalk, several concert venues (for young people), loads of restaurants, etc.

Downtown is a busy, beautiful, fun to go place

I'm amazed, being a native, that they were able to pull it off. There's a building boom of high priced condos downtown, they renovated the Vinoy and being downtown now is such a nice experience.

Older folks still here, but we've definitely moved beyond the "God's waiting room" designation.

I live in Orlando, but spend time over there on occasion. The whole state is growing fast in population, so traffic will likely headache for you. That said, it is a great place to live, no state taxes, economy is booming. Weather is great. I moved from the north, and would have a hard time going back.

I know nothing about Tampa except that it is in Hurricane territory. They sometimes have to evacuate and sometimes receive damage.

My family chose to move to the New Orleans area 13 years ago. It has been financially good for us; but, evacuations are extremely unpleasant and expensive. We have always returned to an undamaged home. If your home is severely damaged it means months and/or years of headaches and heartaches to get back to normal. You should strongly consider this in your decision.
