(3/10/06) - With college basketball championships underway around the country, the FBI has warned stadium operators of a possible suicide bomb attack at sporting events.
In a directive issued today, obtained by ABC News, the FBI says a posting on an extremist message board "advocated suicide attacks against sporting events as a cost-effective means of killing thousands of Americans."
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security say they cannot confirm the credibility of the threat or whether the message is affiliated with al Qaeda.
The FBI says the Internet posting said the suicide attacks would be justified because the United States refused a truce offered by Osama bin Laden in his last videotaped statement, Jan. 19, 2006.
Posting Suggests Using American Suicide Bombers
According to the FBI bulletin, the author of the posting recommended using "three to five blond or black American Muslim suicide bombers." The FBI says the author suggested homemade explosives be hidden under their winter clothing.
The posting recommended, according to the FBI, that one suicide bomber detonate inside the stadium and the others detonate at exit gates as spectators were fleeing.
"The combined explosions would create a panic that would kill far more spectators than the bombing alone," the FBI quotes the message as saying.
The FBI says it is unaware of any specific or credible plans to attack any sporting event but notes that terrorist groups have mounted attacks against sporting events in the past.
The FBI recommends that sports leagues and stadium operators review and coordinate security practices and emergency response procedures "to address this potential threat."

Cost effective? I would be glad to spend a whole magazine of 45 ACP or 30-06 on each islamofacist. Just make it legal.
Forget Tom Clancy's fiction, that kid tried at the Universtiy of Oklahoma (correct me freepers if I've got the location wrong) just this past football season.
No, the story didn't make the MSM, and yes, the U Admins tried to spin it as "just" a suicide, but I'm quite convinced it was a thwarted, or possibly experimental, attempt.
Those in charge should take these warnings seriously, esp. after the little incident in North Carolina the other day.

This ain't Hollywood. The spectators will not run shrieking in horror. They will surely stomp any bombers that haven't exploded yet.

I've been saying for years that I'm surprised there hasn't been an attack at a sports event yet.
It's fun to think that, like the typical sports fan would be PO'd that their game was interrupted, but I'd wager that there'd really be pandemonium. Not to mention, I'm not sure there'd be much left of any suicide bombers.
As Islam spreads, these people will only be emboldened. Expect more and more of this. While I agree that the odds of it impacting anyone are remote, that doesn't say much for those that it will impact.

The movie "Black Sunday" was about 20 or more years ago. It was about a terrorist attack at a Super Bowl.
They didn't panic at the WTC and they won't panic over this. There might be a crowd surge and some injuries from that, but panic is not in the cards.
Well, if we apply the logic of the anti-port deal crowd, we'll just ban all Muslims from sporting events.
They also weren't closed in at the WTC. In an indoor arena, I imagine some would panic. I wouldn't, nor apparently would you, but some likely would. But you may be right.
Let's just hope we don't have to find out.
The WTC had moderately well done escape plans, and I would assume that most who worked there had a general idea of what to do in the event of an emergency. Basketball stadiums have small exits, they are not always well lit in the stands, and there are a lot of people who are at them who are unfamiliar with their surroundings. A bomb goes off, people run to the exits, others go off.. they panic. Look at what has happened at sporting events overseas with stampedes.
