Gay Rights Group Targets Christian Colleges
Christianity Today ^ | March 2006 | Sarah Pulliam

Posted on 03/11/2006 11:48:00 AM PST by ThirstyMan

For the next seven weeks, the group Soulforce will test the hospitality of Christian colleges. Some schools have decided withdraw the welcome mat for the national pro-gay activist group, while others are accommodating the protesters with housing and events.

Sixteen Christian colleges are preparing for the uninvited guests from what Soulforce is calling Equality Ride. The seven-week bus tour launching today will take 35 gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and straight 18- to 28-year-olds to colleges with behavior codes that Soulforce calls discriminatory.

The religious schools Soulforce is protesting specifically ban homosexual behavior along with other non-marital sexual activity.

Soulforce will visit 12 members and three affiliates of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. CCCU president Bob Andringa told CT he has not seen protests at colleges like this in his 12 years heading the council. "I knew that none of our campuses would welcome that kind of outside [message]: 'We're coming, whether you want us to or not.'"

College presidents "are not afraid of violence, but more afraid of outside organizations intercepting [the protesters] on or near the campus," Andringa said. "Christians who are anti-gay will try to confront the riders, and that may cause unanticipated conflict."

Anyone have a tour stop list? I would like to know if my undergrad school is a stop?

I'm guessing that these are private schools, and their campuses are private property. As a result, these protestors should be arrested and jailed prior to the staging of protests.

I'm not sure how one can be sexually active, nevermind bisexual or homosexual and maintain themselves to be conservative Christian.

The two just don't mix, although I know all about sin and temptation. I just have a hard time imagining this bus of sexually active mongrels showing up on a Christian campus to tout their "lifestyle" and what? seek acceptance? I mean they worlds apart.

I believe they were arrested when they showed up at Jerry Falwell's LBC.

It's a sad sign of the times that a religion that has been forced to be open and tolerant of all deviant lifestyles remains under attack from the most intolerant of people.

Once again proving that gay activists do not believe in tolerance and religious freedom...

We have a well known Pastor in the Seattle area that took a strong stand against the perversion of marriage. He wound up with pflag protesting AT THE CHURCH.

He did the Christian thing and invited them in, so long as they agreed to sit quietly and not disrupt the sermon. I thought it was a great way to show the ass rammers that we aren't all a bunch of knuckle draggers.

I've seen it all, now:

"When Paul was writing in the New Testament, he didn't have an understanding of homosexuality as we know it today," he said. We believe that Christ is our best defense, because the message of Christ was always to embrace people and love them."

Well done, there, lad. Now consider the fact that Paul may well have been a bit more in touch with Jesus' teachings than you are some 2,000 years removed.

And while Christ did teach to love unconditionally, he also said to go and sin no more. But perhaps because he lived 2,000 years ago, he did not understand homosexuality like we do today.

This is one group of protestors that might actually enjoy a state in a Federal Pound Me in the @#$ Prison!

(Office Space reference, for those who didn't catch it.)

Exactly.

They should be met coming off of their buses or whatever with smiles, made to feel welcome, offered refreshments, and invited in hear the Gospel.

This is a perfect opportunity to:

There is no need to "judge". The Word of God is like a two-edged sword and will either have them broken with shame or getting out of their seats and walking out.

And if they jeer and heckle? Well then they'd be exposed, wouldn't they?

The Christians need to return a favor and visit Act Up and some gay pride parades. Assuming they have the stomach for it, of course. I say turn the other cheek, but only to conceal the fact that you're drawing a weapon.

Just wondering, then, how all them married couples at my church keep procreating all them liitle ones.
