Feingold Wants Bush Censured for Spying
By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago
A liberal Democratic senator who is considering a White House bid in 2008 said Sunday he is seeking to censure President Bush over his domestic eavesdropping program. The Senate majority leader called it "a crazy political move."
A censure resolution, which simply would scold the president, has been used just once in U.S. history against Andrew Jackson in 1834.
Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record), a longtime critic of the Bush administration, said he hoped a censure would cause Bush to apologize for the warrantless surveillance that he put in place on his own after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
"What the president did, by consciously and intentionally violating the Constitution and the laws of this country with this illegal wiretapping, has to be answered," Feingold said on ABC's "This Week."
"A crazy political move" that would weaken the U.S. during wartime was the immediate response from the Senate leader, Bill Frist, R-Tenn., who appeared on ABC right after Feingold.
"Russ is just wrong. He is flat wrong, he is dead wrong," Frist said. He did not respond directly when asked if he would allow the resolution to come up for a vote.
"The signal that it sends, that there is in any way a lack of support for our commander in chief who is leading us with a bold vision in a way that is making our homeland safer is wrong," Frist said.
The White House says Bush had the power to order the monitoring as commander in chief and under a September 2001 congressional authorization to use force in the fight against terrorism.

Digusting.
Marginal little man.
Bitter too.
Feingold is playing to the loony base
Which is also why he is posting over at the Daily Kos
With the 2006 mid-terms coming up, you would think Rove himself is writting the script.
Time to use my old tag line again.
Stuck on stupid comes to mind
They'll eventually prove to the voters that they're insane with hatred for President Bush.
I'd like to see Feingold "censured" for being a bloviating, pompous ass and for dumping his failed McCain/Feingold fiasco on the American people. It's very anti-First Amendment.
Feingold's best pal, John McCain, would approve, I'm sure. Wouldn't it be nice to clear out all the politicians in DC and start over? These entrenched Senators are all parasites and its time to throw all of them OUT!
Well I want J-Rock interrogated for Leaking ...
Little Rusty Feingold appears to be upset that President Bush is doing his job by "thinking outside the box" and "connecting the dots." That's all the homos like Feingold were whining about after 9-11. They accused Bush of not "connecting the dots." Now that Bush is "connecting the dots," the paranoid morons like Feingold go hysterical on us.
Believe me, we tried. But too many sheeple in this state think Russie is just a nice guy and voted him another term. It was weird to me seeing "W" bumper stickers occupying the same space as "Re-elect Feingold" Some people just don't have a clue.
Sounds like Feingold is a bit worried about his own activities. Are you doing something illegal, Feingold?
No apology needed but Feingold could get a lot of laughter in return. He's in over his head and doesn't know it.
Digusting. Marginal little man. Bitter too. Truth bears repeating! |
I liked Feingold five years ago. I thought he was a principled liberal. I was wrong
