They just want to level the playing field so that Microsoft will have a chance against them.
By doing their best to assure the American people that they have completely sold them out and that they are willing to work for the interests of foreign governments over those of the US. They have done their part in providing a reason for Microsoft's new service to exist when in any sane world it would be a silly joke.

Google has now begun censoring web results in the USA. Previously they have admitted censoring sites in China. Like the Chinese censorship the sites being cut from the search results are anti-communist.
What is the reason why the author of the article didn't report the following -- I assume they'd have received the same results. There's no reason to think they wouldn't have.
I entered the exact phrase "thepeoplescube.com" in the exact phrase box and Google returned about 15,800 results. When I entered the same exact phrase in the any word box it returned zero links. When I omit the ".com" the any word box returned about 16,500 results -- the same result was returned using the exact phrase box.
Seems to me that the author is confused, if Google was going to censor thepeoplescube.com they would have done a much better job of it. Did the author not do the research as I just did and thus is ignorant? Or, did the author do the above research and chose to omit those facts from his article?
The People's Cube is a business corporation selling products on the Internet. A drop in traffic, caused by a malicious tempering with search results, has affected sales and that gives us grounds for you-know-what.
Oh look at that, there's a human finger in my chili !!

Sergey Brin has been too busy dumping hundreds of thousands of his shares of Google stock to worry about this little blocking problem:
Google Alert!!!
Do no evil. Uh-huh. Right.

I use google.com and groups.google.com a lot and lots of times I have to put stuff in quotes, mostly to limit results as what quotes do is lock in the order of the words.
I've never noticed anything like this though, where you get zero results without the quotes and thousands with. This makes no sense or am I missing something?

In 2004, Al Gore announced the first national network created by, for and with an 18-34 year-old audience. Its mission is to serve as a TV platform where the voices of young adults can be heard. The network will invite audiences to move beyond their roles as viewers to become active collaborators. Its programming will consist of 15-second to five-minute segments relating to pressing issues such as the environment, relationships, spirituality, finance, politics and parenting. Production facilities will be located in San Francisco.
Google's co-founder and president of Technology, Sergey Brin, said, "We're pleased to collaborate with the entire Current team." The new network has even adopted Google's "Current" monicker.
Among those most intimately involved with the project are a veritable who's who of super-connected Democratic donors and operatives, from INdTV's board of directors on down. Besides Gore and Hyatt, those directors include San Francisco investment banker Richard Blum, the husband of U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein; Ron Burkle, the billionaire Los Angeles investment banker and Democratic megadonor; and Ed Renwick, a partner in Burkle's investment firm. (That firm, Yucaipa Companies, claims former President Bill Clinton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson among its directors.)

Just give the site several domain names and counter the censorship. Also create redirects and other methods that will allow to fool Google.

This obviously Bill Gates's fault. Or Bush's. Probably both, in cahoots with each other.

Accoona. I'm going to start using it to see how well it works.
It gives 2 links to thepeoplescube.com.

Now I find this pretty interesting:
According to post #8 @:
"The coming new wave of jihad"
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1595340/posts
"Al-Qaeda sympathizers are using Orkut, a popular, worldwide Internet service owned by Google, to rally support for Osama bin Laden, share videos and Web links promoting terrorism, and recruit non-Arabic-speaking Westerners, according to terrorism experts and a survey of the sites.
Well; Fancy that!

I prefer DOGPILE.COM
though I think they include Google in their batch.
Hideous, and unAmerican for Google to do such traitorous things.
And they do it smiling all the way to the bank. Hideous.

Microsoft is supposedly coming out with a search engine better than Google, wonder if they saw this coming.
