New Iraqi Documents Show Bush Didn't 'Lie'

Newly translated Iraqi documents from Saddam Hussein's regime show that President Bush was factually accurate when he told the nation in his 2003 State of the Union Address that Iraq had recently sought uranium from Africa.

Bush's 16-word statement had formed the basis for the claim adopted by administration critics that "Bush lied" about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs.

But according to the Washington Times today, an unnamed U.S. official reports that "newly translated Iraqi documents . . . tell of Saddam seeking uranium from Africa in the mid-1990s."

The documents also speak of burying prohibited missiles, a government official familiar with the declassification process told the paper.

In his January 2003 address, Bush told the nation:

"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

The statement prompted former ambassador to Iraq, Joseph Wilson to complain to the New York Times seven months later: "I have little choice but to conclude that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat."

The new documents strongly suggest, however, that Wilson was wrong - and that the "Bush lied" mantra adopted by most Democrats since Wilson first made his complaint has been based on bogus information.

Confirmation on African uranium claim offered by Iraqi documents may be just the tip of the iceberg.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Peter Hoekstra told the Washington Times that about 500 hours of Saddam audiotape is still being translated and analyzed by the U.S.

And U.S. Central Command has 48,000 boxes of Iraqi documents, of which the military has delivered just 68 pages to his committee so far.

"I don't want to overstate what is in the documents," Hoekstra told the paper. "[But] I certainly want to get them out because I think people are going to find them very interesting."

Virtually everyone knew that Saddam was purchasing, developing and hoarding WMDs. For most of us, logic was that smuggling to Syria began while the U.N. and congressional democrats in America stalled the invasion.

Maybe, that is why I was so disappointed to the White House apologize and admit they were wrong. Now, as the truth comes out, they look foolish again.

I never thought that the President lied about WMDs.

Many would have been better served if he'd put up a more rigorous defense of the presence of WMDs and of Iraqi ties to a number of terrorist groups to include Al Qaeda.

Those most injured by the terrible media skills of the President's information team are the soldiers of the US military. They NEED daily to know that their sacrifice is the necessary thing to be doing for a just cause.

New Iraqi Documents Show Bush Didn't 'Lie'

It is utterly amazing how a FALSEHOOD stated often enough becomes the truth. OR as in this case a true statement falsely reported becomes a LIE about a LIE.

What the POTUS said in his SOTU was the TRUTH. However the way it was reported was that BUSH SAID Saddam had tried to get yellow cake from Niger when in FACT it was the British government that said it.

Which by the way is EXACTLY what the President said.

The SOTU statement by the PRESIDENT was and always has been the TRUTH!!!!

The only time I ever see these stories is when the come from Nesmax or the National Review with the occasional reiterations from Hannity or Rush.

I'm not suggesting the stories aren't true but until they appear on the evening news, or in the major papers, the left will continue their "Bush Lied" march.

On qualification for believing Leftist propaganda or other conspiracy theories is total lack of interest in fact or logic. Any document you might present to refute their claims is immediately dismissed as a "forgery".

If tomorrow we were to discover an underground complex of storage bunkers in Iraq, containing tons of WMD; the left would simply claim it was planted.

No, they're not. Only to those who are ignorant. Behind the scenes they are fighting this thing thru Scooter Libby to take the media down further.

They are fighting the battles where it counts, not on the public stage where the MSM dominates. The WH is not in the business of entertainment.

The WH is very, very far from weak. They are winning and those who watch too much TV don't know it.

Yes, well connected to "France", was that the reason he went to check things out before?

So many questions still not yet asked.

Wilson was used before for this type of mission and somebody in our government decided he was the man for this attempted cover up.

We would not have the Fritz ever continuing legal extravaganza were Wilson not 'selected' to 'covertly' sniff out fraudulent documents regarding Saddam's attempts to acquire Yellowcake.
