Eight illegal aliens involved in a vehicle crash early Wednesday morning received medical treatment and were released from Yuma Regional Medical Center, but not taken into U.S. Border Patrol custody.
Of those taken to the hospital, one man was flown to Barrow Neurological Center in Phoenix, and a 13-year-old girl was admitted into YRMC following the wreck near Roll, said Border Patrol Yuma sector spokesman Michael Gramley. The other eight walked out of the hospital a few hours later with no Border Patrol contact, an occurrence Gramley said happens from "time to time."
"Border Patrol is definitely concerned about this issue, and we do make an effort to detain those subjects," Gramley said. "Unfortunately, in this case, they were released without the notification of Border Patrol. Border Patrol is constantly working to improve relations with other agencies in an effort to better perform our mission."
Generally, the hospital does not contact Border Patrol if they treat suspected illegal aliens, according to Gramley, but the Yuma County Sheriff's Office did contact Border Patrol about the crash. An agent called the hospital about the eight Wednesday morning, but they were already gone.
Border Patrol national policy directs agents not to take people requiring extensive medical treatment into custody except in significant cases initiated by Border Patrol that involve severe endangerment of life. In those cases, Border Patrol will make arrests to ensure criminal prosecution, Gramley said.
In this instance, Border Patrol had not initiated the case, and the smuggler had already escaped, according to Gramley. Border Patrol is charged for medical treatment provided to people in their custody.
Gramley said this national policy is implemented on a case-by-case basis. "If we have knowledge that a person is a criminal alien, that subject will not be released," he said.

Just another astronomical hospital bill to be shouldered by the American taxpayer.
I say we send the hospital bill to Mexico.
Q. What do ER personnel call Illegal Aliens leeching free medical treatment?
A. Señor.
Probably illegal to even ask Mexico to pay.
More DHS insanity.

YOU ARE NOT DOING A GOOD JOB!
You know what peeves me off soooooooooo much about illegals? They have complete immunity when it comes to law enforcement, hospital bills, etc.
Try getting in a wreck, being treated at a hospital and then being able to just walk out. pfffffttttt
They set these guys up with a 000-00-000 SS# (so they can bill the state) and wave adios to them!
You would be harassed til the day you die. I know, my Mom is still getting bills for my poor dead father, 2 yrs later.

By not being there to take the illegals into custody, the BP avoided being responsible for their medical bills. Wanna guess who gets to pick up that tab? AZ taxpayers.
Support our Minutemen Patriots!
Be Ever Vigilant!
Hospital emergency rooms are sanctuary for illegals.
One wonders what the Mexican government and its citizens would say, think, and do, if twenty million Americans were to illegally invade Mexico and expect the Mexican government to provide free medical care; supply them with free education and automatic Mexican citizenship for their children; require bilingual interpreters at all hospitals and courts; insist on bilingual government forms; demand that Mexico accept American IDs and provide us with sanctuary cities that would ignore our multiple lawbreaking and allow us to remain free from arrest; expect Mexicans to learn English so we wouldn't have to learn Spanish; fly the US flag from our homes and cars; insist on courses in American culture at our local schools; demand local driver's licenses and in-state college tuition; balkanize their cities and towns; insist that police officers speak to us in English and require them to hire American bilingual officers that are culturally acceptable; and permit the American government to have 47 consulates in Mexico to subversively serve those American illegal aliens.(1) What would most Mexicans say about that?
Daneen G. Peterson Ph.D
Well if a group did as you suggested in Mexico; if they were low key and polite about it, they would be ignored. If they took to the streets in mass with demands and protest signs and caused problems I have little doubt they would either rot in a Mexican jail the rest of their lives, or simply be shot.
You make it sound so silly, putting it like that </sarcasm>. It is unbelievable to me that things here have been allowed to go so far.
ps. What is your PhD in, if you don't mind me being nosy?
Our President doesn't want to offend his best buddy Vicente! He would rather we shoulder the burden of paying billions of dollars for these invaders.
Put "" around that, it was a copy and paste.

However, should anyone at YRMC screw up something, ask a question which is perceived as insensitive by the lawbreaking Mexicans, or offer them water instead of agua, the lawyers will be dressing the aliens in nice suits, and taking YRMC, Yuma County, Arizona and the US govt. to court by next Monday.

Pursuit ends in wreck, death
BY JEFFREY GAUTREAUX, SUN STAFF WRITER

Federal charges are being sought against an alleged alien smuggler who crashed while being pursued by the U.S. Border Patrol, killing a woman.
Humbert Limas Arreola, 27, of Mexico, was driving the 1990 Chevrolet Suburban filled with 20 illegal aliens when it attempted to avoid a spike strip placed on the road and rolled over at 6:27 a.m. at milepost 32.9 of eastbound Interstate 8, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Flora Carrillo Carmona, 55, of Mexico, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries, DPS said. Her city of residence in Mexico was unknown.
"It's unfortunate that one did die, but it could have been a lot worse than it was. We could have had a number of fatalities," said DPS Sgt. Brian Turner said.
Turner said federal charges are being pursued against Arreola. However, Sandy Raynor, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, said it was too early to tell if charges would be filed. "This is still an ongoing investigation," she said.
Arreola, who suffered a skull fracture in the crash, was one of three people injured in the wreck admitted to Yuma Regional Medical Center. As of 3 p.m. Thursday, Yuma sector Border Patrol spokesman Michael Gramley said nine illegal aliens had been released from YRMC into Border Patrol custody, two were still in the emergency room being evaluated and one had been flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.
Despite his head injury, the Border Patrol said Arreola fled the scene on foot, but agents apprehended him several hundred yards away in a field. Gramley did not confirm the name of the driver but said the driver was being considered as the alleged smuggler.
Numerous ambulances and a Search and Rescue helicopter from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma responded to take the injured to YRMC. The Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department transported two patients from the accident.
This accident comes on the heels of a less severe crash Wednesday morning after which eight illegal aliens who were treated at the hospital were released and not taken into Border Patrol custody.
Following Thursday's crash, all those in the vehicle were taken into custody. Gramley said some will be detained as witnesses and the rest will go through standard processing.
"This is an example of a very serious case in which one person was killed and many others were seriously injured," Gramley said. "That's the type of case where the Border Patrol takes custody of witnesses and possible co-conspirators, even if they require medical attention."
DPS and the Border Patrol said Wednesday's incident unfolded like this:
At about 6:10 a.m., the Suburban went through the commercial lane of the Border Patrol's Interstate 8 checkpoint and failed to stop when directed. Agents began following the vehicle, caught up with it east of Telegraph Pass and attempted to pull it over.
