Jeeze, my brick 3-car garage is bigger than that! If I put up a few walls, a kitchen and bath I could sell it for a million?

yes and maybe that happens for 7 years.... then BOOM. It starts all over again.I don't pretend to preach, I've never made $600,000 on a real estate investment, you have. I will say that if you pull the slot machine handle enough times....you will lose.

We can go to the Beach, ski in the mountains and go to the desert all in the same day.
I remember a character visiting the UK from California saying this in an episode of Fawlty Towers. I've lived here for most of my life, but have never met anyone who actually did it.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, though, along with millions of other people - there's a reason the housing is so expensive out here.

I refuse to live in an area where crew serve weapons are needed for home protection.

Why are you anti-family?
(Sorry, couldn't resist)

..there's a reason the housing is so expensive out here. Yes? Don't keep us silly Midwesterners in suspense, why DO $16,000 shacks sell for $750,000? And why do you believe there will never be a correction?

(I apologize, it's a bit silly. I'll bow out here)

Because many more people would rather live here than in the Midwest.

I don't believe that - I lived through the LA real estate correction in the early '90s when I was just out of college and paying a mortgage on my first townhouse. I just don't see any reason to believe that a downturn will be either severe or long-lasting (longer than, say, 5 years).

that shack in Oklahoma for $30,000, it's location, location, location....

Yes, there is a reason. I spend a few days in San Diego every year for work, and I absolutely love it. One of the nicest cities and best climates in our great country.

I went to school at UC San Diego and used to think I'd live in La Jolla or Del Mar after graduation. Heaven on earth, if there is such a place. If only they had more tech jobs...

I live in TX, handling all manner of weapons comes natural to us.;) Ever see some deer hunt with a M203?

Now people are moving away from SoCal like crazy. Why? Because they can longer afford housing. That statement reminds me of the time someone asked Yogi Berra what his favorite restaurant was, his reply was "Gambolli's down on 43rd Street... but no-one goes there anymore because it's too crowded".

Great point. There is more to this than meets the eye. Commercially zoned land on the right street is worth substantially more than similar residentially zoned property.

Because many more people would rather live here than in the Midwest. I see. Have you ever thought of selling your home and buying 5000 acres in Wyoming, building a 4000 sq. ft. palace for your family and doing your programing and business on-line....like the rest of us hicks?

If it's high traffic, you can knock down the house and put up a pre-fab building for an auto body shop or some other business.

--California is where people with a dream come to realize it. It has a culture of discovery and innovation. For me it is important to be in that kind of environment. For people that enjoy the status quoe, it is not a place for you. That is why people think it is worth living here.--
California is the place the company I work for and most of the people who work here are from. I'm in NC and they moved here. It's OK with me.
