We have had major hurricane disasters all over the coasts and it's usually just a bad memory by next season as people quietly continue to re-build. I have never seen anything like this before.
To: CindyDawg
You bet!
In fact, I think they should charge a nominal RENT for the use of the NEW trailer till they find somewhere else to live. Such, greedy, ungrateful people ... .

I think some see this as cashing in on the taxpayer lottery - they have the sympathy of people, as they should but NOW they are trying their darnedest to EXPLOIT this to their advantage. That's WRONG in my book and really turns me off.

#1) - I want to live 12' below sea level without any insurance
#2) - I want to live in tornado and hurricane and floodplain areas without any insurance
#3) - I want all you suckers to pay for my "temporary" housing and income and medical care and more kids and food eternally - A luxury ocean liner might be OK if you give me a new car and pay for my gourmet food and give me a few bucks for a few more years until I get over all of this stress
#4) - I want all you suckers to give me new permanent housing even though I only rented in New Orleans
#5) - After all - the "alternate lifestyle" New Yorkers were bailed out on Fire Island when their weekend homes fell into the ocean or were blown away
#5) - If you do this I will promise to vote for democrats

Me, I would want a concrete house. On stilts.

LOoking at history and the great mess Mexicans have always made of their country, I would not want to live in Mexico.
Soon however, when all of the Barrios are emptied into the U. S. Mexico might be the best place to go.

And the Feds are paying 60K for that? It's not that I don't think it's OK for temp housing, but I think you should get 2 or 3 for that price.

Already thougt of going to Mexico. If you look at my city you will say...heck they are all here anyway. This country gives me heartburn anymore.
They have run us out of California (moving to Hawaii) in 2007 and if I can't stand the erosion of our "freedom" and watching the politicans squander our taxes, I have already done research for other countries.

The cost of the cottage, they argue, is hard to beat. FEMA is spending about $75,000 to deliver and install each of the 23- to 28-foot trailers for storm victims. A Katrina Cottage can be set up for less than $60,000, manufacturers say. Are you upset that the government is spending more money on an inferior solution?
