A film can be popular, but not good.

That is the motto of movie critics.

Just to get an idea of your point of view, what do you consider to be "good" movies?

A great movie generally starts with a great screenplay. I guess I'm old school that way. It all starts on the page.

Popular but not good.
1. One example of a "popular" movie that was "big stuff" for its time that DIDN'T stand the test of time was Love Story.
2. Another was Clockwork Orange.
These were poplar movies that were considered "good" but were....BLARK in my estimation. Everyone drooled over them. I HATED Love Story and wouldn't see Clockwork Orange. I did about 30 years later. Terrible movie and boring.

I so often disagree with the Sleazywood critics. They have SUCH a different view of reality.
Remember how they panned Star Wars? It was GANGBUSTER! The critics decided to "see it again and take another look at it." Harhar. They KNEW they blew that one, big time. THEY have their own agendo too, I think.
Sleazywood actually took a lesson from Star Wars and make more like it. Out of that came the Bladerunner, one of the best sci-fi films ever. Ridley Scott followed it up with Alien, another fantastic sci-fi. Scott is just a genius. He produces stuff we LIKE...and ARE good. So does Gibson.

GOOD movies are seen by most people. They are bought in DVD year after year. They withstand the test of time. Good movies are that because they appeal to a wide range of people.

Sleazywoodians (SAG) chose five movies as their favorites. I didn't see even one of them. I don't plan on seeing any of them. I did see Walk the Line and loved it. Let's just see how THEIR choices do in DVD over the years....versus how Walk the Line does.

I think that what you're seeing here is Gibson-hate. Just a guess, mind you.
