Maybe, but the of those I know their property taxes (Through valuations) have gone through the roof. Case in point my brothers has gone up 20% in the past three years. His and his wife's wages have not gone up as much. Not to mention the cost of living increase from energy costs. Half of those I know are like me and my wife. We are scrutinizing spending, paying off debts and putting money back just in case. It is the general take of most I talk to that the economic numbers look good but they feel like they are getting squeezed.

Would you agree the onus of that situation is on the agressiveness of a municipal taxing authority, and not so much the national economy?

In your situation no matter the state of the economy, you are getting squeezed by a local marxist taxing regime(Property taxes being local not national). Perhaps, if the economy truly was in the tank...the local authorities would not be so inclined to raise rates and valuations...maybe.

Depending on where you live in Houston...your fact pattern would be different.

So the question is do you move? Or do you take your case before the municipal authorities, that property valuations are being overstated to raise revenue for mismanaged municipality and get your tax burden reduced?

Incidently, I understand this is what is happening around the houston area. It's independent of the economy, but effects your personal pocked book nonetheless. Joining a local taxpayor advocacy group could help your cause.

Sounds to me like you're squeezing yourself. That's a good thing I think, and I try to do the same. Actually the more success I have, and the more money I make, that feeling of uneasiness about the future ripens. I think it's rightly so that a man should feel like that, especially if he has struggled with finances at one time or another. I'm old enough to know now that money comes and goes, so it's best to think about when it goes while it's coming. Capiche?
