TOPEKA Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a bill today that would allow Kansans to carry concealed weapons, setting up a face-off with lawmakers already vowing to attempt to overrule her.
Its uncertain whether the majority of lawmakers who support the bill can meet the two-thirds votes required to override a gubernatorial veto, which was widely expected. An attempt in the Senate is expected as early as today.
Sebelius, who vetoed a similar proposal in 2004, wrote in her veto message that she cannot support allowing hidden weapons into businesses, restaurants, malls and any number of other public places.
Overriding the veto would take two-thirds of both the House and Senate: 84 House members and 27 senators. Last week, the House approved the bill 90-33. The Senate passed the bill last month 29-11.
If those votes hold, the Legislature can override the veto. But lawmakers particularly Democrats will be under pressure from Sebelius to let her veto stand. Already, some Democrats in the Senate have said theyll stand by the governors decision.
Kansas lawmakers repeatedly have passed similar measures that have met vetoes in 2004 by Sebelius, a Democrat, and in 1997 by Republican Bill Graves.

The previous governor, a Republican, also saw fit to crap on Kansans right to self-defense.

84 House members
...the House approved the bill 90-33
90 + 33 = 123
and 27 senators
...Senate passed the bill last month 29-11.
29 + 11 = 40

" . . . she cannot support allowing hidden weapons . . . " That is to say, she cannot allow people to defend their lives. There goes the right to life in that state.
Oh, by the way. Who is this clown that assumes she can shred the Declaration of Independence?

The 84 and 27 referenced are each 2/3's of the respective houses mentioned, the quantity needed for an override.

If it's anything like politics everywhere else - the vote for a bill can be a supermajority in the original passing phase, but those who are part of the same political party as the governor tend to loose backbone when thier "fearless leader" says no....

This is Groundhog Day for the KC Metro. Former Governor Holden (D) MO vetored CCW, then it was overridden, then he lost the
primary as a sitting Governor, and now we have a staunchly conservative Republican Navy Officer Governor here in Missouri.
The headline on this article ought to read:
KANSAS GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES SHE WILL LOSE TO REPUBLICAN IN NEXT ELECTION
