A Rio Grande City rancher is accused of holding several immigrants at gunpoint because they crossed onto his property.
Rio Grande City police say last Thursday the department received an anonymous call that several illegal immigrants were being held at gunpoint in a general area behind the COD Auto Parts.
When officers arrived they discovered the immigrants had already left. Later that day officers interviewed a man, woman and two children.
The Mexican nationals identified the accused gunman, 45-year old Felix Ricardo Salinas, of pointing a gun at them and demanded money because they were crossing his ranch along Rio Grande.
Because they didn't have any money, police say the suspect escorted them back to his pickup where he planned to hold them until they were able to contact family members to get money.
While heading to the truck, the immigrants took off running and were later met by police trying to escape from the suspect.
Salinas was charged with two counts of criminal attempted aggravated robbery.
According to police, Salinas denied asking for money or holding the immigrants at gunpoint and that Salinas said he just wanted them to leave property.
Salinas was taken to the Starr County jail pending arraignment.
The illegals were deported back to Mexico.
And the problem with this is?
"Illegal" must have been ommitted from the title purely to save space? LOL
I don't understand what the big stink is about? What did I miss here?????
The illegals will probably sue him and win his ranch.
I had no problem with him until he demanded money. I thought he was holding them because they were breaking the law. He obviously wasn't protecting our borders, he was just trying to make a buck off an illegal activity.
My thoughts exactly.
I would hope the police have more evidence than the illegal invaders word about what happened.
Rio Grande Ping!
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off this South Texas/Mexico ping list.
I don't see any evidence that he demanded money aside from the fact that the lawbreakers said so.
The fall of the republic is now complete.............
It's only the word of the illegals that he tried to get money out of them. The article doesn't mention any other evidence against the man.
they should try doing this in Ohio on a REALLY well-manicured lawn.
I hope he didn't demand money. That would make him a total jag. Just another toll booth to cross. Who do you trust. I doubt we will ever know the outcome of this.
You're joking right?? Trespassing on someones land is illegal especially when the land is posted.
