New Jersey Budget Address 2006
http://www.state.nj.us ^ | March 21, 2006 | Governor Jon S. Corzine delivers his 2006 Budget Address

Posted on 03/21/2006 5:18:39 PM PST by SouthernBoyupNorth

It is my honor and responsibility to stand before you today and offer my best ideas to meet our state’s recurring structural budget crisis. My administration’s work over the past two months has surely deepened my understanding of the challenge of fixing our broken fiscal policies.

I must say, Governor Codey was on target when in November he jokingly said, “my transition report can be summed up simply - The state is pretty much broke.” Today more than in November, I realize he was pretty much right.

Now more then ever, I appreciate how difficult our work over the next 3 ½ months will be, as together, we arrive at a responsible, negotiated budget.

Most certainly, I am committed to working with all of the Legislature, both Democrats and Republicans, to produce a budget which respects the fundamental values of the people of our great state and the mandate of our Constitution.

I think the values of most New Jerseyans include the expectation that as individuals, and as a community, we must pay our own way in life.

New Jerseyans believe that telling the truth is always better than hiding from it, even when it hurts. And boy, does this hurt.

And, most New Jerseyans understand that the character of a society can be measured by the support we give to our most vulnerable: our children, the elderly and those left behind developmentally or from other afflictions of life’s circumstances.

I am certain the American Dream of a better tomorrow for our children is alive and well in New Jersey. And those of us in Government must promote that promise, not undermine it.

We express our vision of that promise in real terms through our budgets.

Boy is THIS a crock of S*** or what?!?! The fact that he delivered this with a straight face is disturbing. This whole budget is a farce of biblical proportions!

NJ will never be red. This is a state of idiots. If you're an idiot, and you vote for an idiot, what you get is a government of idiots. New Jerseyans will never get this point through their heads.

Menendez will end up crushing Kean, even after Corzine's tax increases. This state lacks the common sense to make a change, because it prefers to vote Democrat no matter what. Corzine could enact socialism tomorrow, and these people would still vote Democrat.

The gall of this Corzine in incredible. He hikes taxes by $2 billion, claiming that it is needed to reduce the budget deficit, and increases spending by $2.6 billion in the same budget. He could personally walk up to every New Jerseyan and tell them this, and these morons would still vote for him.

New Jersey, Jim Florio, Jim McGreevey, and Jon Corzine: Perfect together.

NJ will never be red. This is a state of idiots.

I live in Jersey and this is very true. The real problem is that we have no real Republican party.

I know that preedictions of the Northeast's demise were proven false. However, I think they were correct but wrong in the timing by about 20 years.

I moved to Florida - we starve helpless chronic patients to death, rather than taxing them into that condition.

But we get to play with machine guns and carry switchblades, nanny - nanny - foo - foo. :)
