what is field marshal Annan waiting for? there is genocide happening against black Africans committed by Arabian militias, why is the UN doing NOTHING!!!!????? /sarcasm as to my last (rhetorical) question.... *sigh*
I skimmed this article... What's going on? Who are the Muslims killing this time?
It's amazing how much they can write without saying "it's Islam the religion of peace" once again slaughtering infidels.
Mr Reeves has the facts wrong, and I resent his efforts to polish the UN's rep at the expense of the Bush Administration. Also it is not accomplishing his goals to help Sudan.
Colin Powell as Secretary of Defense fought for the US postion that Darfur was a genocide. He tried to get that declaration at the UN.
The UN and Annan refuse to acknowledge that fact. If the UN did its job and called it a genocide, the stricter provisions enacted post Rwanda would be invoked.

U.N.: Darfur Not Considered Genocide
"Today, a United Nations report has concluded that the Sudanese government has not been committing genocide in the country's Darfur region. Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed there over the past two years, and yet according to the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-caring United Nations, genocide would not be an accurate term to describe this. They do, however, "strongly criticize" the role the Sudanese government played in not stopping the killings and rapes of Darfur residents by armed Arab militiamen called Janjaweed."

But the UN caters to the Arab League who are perfectly content to wipe out Black Muslims and seize Sudan's oil riches so no genocide declaration.
Bolton has fought for increased military forces to combat the genocide and faced UN obfuscation.
Here are the UN provisions that governs once genocide is declared:

Africa's main problem is that it's filled with and operated by....Africans, who's idea of long term planning is being sure the mosque is swept every other Sunday so it will be nice for Monday prayers.
Look around the continent. Everywhere you turn there are projects done by governments, churches and missionaries that have been promptly destroyed by the very people they were meant to help. A typical incident was my local church association funding and providing manpower for a gravity powered (pumps don't work long when nobody in the village can loosen a screw) irrigation project. A neighboring tribe stole all the pipe exactly one week after the missionaries left.
Examples such as this have proven to me that people cannot be helped unless they actually want to do better for themselves.
We're busy and so's our budget.
